This times 10. I don't understand sometimes this obsession with cutting traditional cable as a cost cutting measure when comparing apples to apples. Nothing is cheap anymore but I pay $143/month for cable/internet TSN/Sportsnet and associated million channels, HBO, Crave and a international channel that normally goes for $17/month.
When you factor in upgraded internet packages and adding up all the streaming services and specialty channels, I don't see any sort of big savings at all from cutting the cord. I think a lot of people just fail to shop around or just do the simple math.
Friends of mine laugh that I still have the old school Shaw PVR system but it's reliable and a much better deal. I think my cable portion of the bill is approx $75/month for everything I described and here we are talking about a single Sportsnet app costing 40% of that.

Streaming is going up at a stupid rate and will ultimately become bundled and the new cable but presently I pay less than that a month for TSN, Crave, SN. Netflix, Disney, Apple and Spotify and while I get fewer channels than cable I get mostly what I want by and large. But those days are quickly coming to an end

Yep, I just re-negotiate my same full TV/medium internet/crave HBO every two years at around $90-$100 a month and be done with it. Then I see everyone around me talking about the joys of cutting cable and then starting with an $80/mth internet before they even start paying for their streaming services. Or they're just paying for internet and stealing everything else, which whatever that's fine. But don't hold that internet plus pirating against internet plus cable TV package like it's equal, lol.

Exactly! Instead it feels like you are paying to watch oilers nation broadcast games with analysis from equipment that they picked up when ITV went off the air.

This is very YMMV though
If you live in an area that doesn't have access to Telus fiber Rogers knows and will give you one of these
The pirated product being way better is what seals it in the end for me though. All games, home and away feeds, no blackouts

Yeah, that's the thing. When the product you want is available, but no authorized provider will sell it to you at any price, what are you supposed to do?

Always amuses me that some guy in his house in Iran runs a better operation than a billion dollar media giant.

The pirate and Rogers are only as good at their jobs as they have to be to survive.
A guy in Iran has to worry about his government shutting him down – and they are not nice about doing it. A billion-dollar media giant in Canada can count on being spoon-fed by our government and protected from all legal competition.
Rogers has the luxury of being slow, fat, and stupid. The pirate guy, not so much.

Very good point. I think they may have overstepped the mark this time though, hopefully enough people cancel that they actually feel it.

But if they do feel it, their reaction won't be lower prices and better service, it will be a more determined crackdown on pirating

Is Sportsnet plus just the basic package or is that the one for watching all NHL games?

Both work considerably better than the Sportsnet app.

Sportsnet+ Standard gets you local NHL games (Flames & Oilers in CGY market)
Sportsnet+ Premium gets you all* out of market NHL games
* Except for the ones on Prime on Mondays. Those are exclusive to Prime
Also, both packages get you the SN national broadcast games like Wednesday Night hockey and HNIC

Another option is a "legit" NHL.tv subscription
You will need to use a VPN as it isn't available in Canada. $129/year (might be USD) and you get all games including playoffs, both feeds, NO blackouts
