Byron Buxton hitting for the cycle on his own bobble head day is pretty neat

So, the All Star game ends in a home run derby shoot-out. Which was kinda of fun.
But Judge and Ohtani weren't even on the ballfield anymore? Had already showered and gone home? That's a real bad look. God MLB just loves to shoot themselves in the foot at the All Star game.

The whole All Star experience in MLB is forced, contrived, bull****. No one thing stands out amongst the rest as the "wrong " thing or a missed opportunity.

They should just get some minor league scrub to be like the Emergency Backup pitcher and pitch for both teams once the game is tied after 9 and keep playing until someone wins.

Seriously, with the ghost runner (put him on 3rd if you want) the game would not go much longer. You can leave a pitcher or two back not everyone has to play, roster is so expanded now anyways. It's just modern attitudes these days.

Just make it so the home team loses in a tie, at least that forces some bottom of the ninth drama.

The field for the swing-off, though, left fans a little caught off-guard. Some of the biggest names in the sport, such as Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge, were left out.
The reasoning, it turns out, was simple. They, like many of the players, had left early. Ohtani, Roberts said, was “long gone
|
hahaha this is why Baseball is a joke and not even a real sport! Long gone?? hahahaha Where did they go? They couldn't wait in the dressing room for the rest of the game? pathetic.

Didn’t they scrap the away goal rule in some soccer tournaments?

Juuuust a bit of a difference between competitive matches in football and an All-Star game. Gimmick endings in the All-Star game are a big whatever. Like we just saw one lol, changing the gimmick doesn't particularly matter.

Why?
I thought that HR competition was fun for an all-star game
The fans in attendance loved it

I guess my point is who genuinely cares? Call it a tie and be done with it. Or have the Wade Boggs Challenge after and see who can slam as many Bud Light's as possible in ten minutes. Doesn't really matter all that much.

i agree, it's more a celebration these days, do we really care which league is better? Call it a tie after 9 innings.

The ASG also featured a catcher get pinch hit for and then appear back behind the plate the next inning. It's just a bit of fun.
The swing off was cool for one occasion as long as it doesn't give anyone ideas for real games. Would have been nice to see some of the big home run hitters appear but the justification seemed to be it was better to go with players who were warmed up.
