You need to use every avenue available to build your team but typically it's a lot easier to draft your stars then to try and sign or trade for them. Calgary isn't exactly at the top of most players top destinations. Plus they really don't have the assets to be trading for star players either. So what is the actual plan to acquire elite talent?

That’s fine, but that is closer to the value of the trade than the one for one proposal. My goodness.

Is there a way to see when he did that? I saw Reddit was all a buzz about it but his last post from May is him from the Worlds so I’m less believing this is a sign of anything.

I feel like he did that simply to troll us basement dwelling hockey nerds who are so quick to rush him out of town or whatever he said during garbage bag day.

So yes, finishing 9th instead of 14th actually does hurt our future a lot. Especially when Kadri and Huberdeau and all those players will be retired by the time we are a contender.

Flames get "more points" and finish 9th lol

Of course there is a timetable on Wolf. If we extend him for 8 years after the last year of his current contract then we have a 9 year timetable until the end of that contract and we find out if he extends or leaves.
If your plan is to wait until he is 33 or 35 to finally have a competitive team then chances are he'll be on another team by that age. Him and Parekh and Coronato are not going to want to sit around and tread water for 7, 8, or 9 years and then ask for more.
This is why we cannot wait for a 2028 draft pick to turn 23 and finally answer the question of "who will be the Flames #1C?". We need a more immediate solution (and hopefully also draft that guy in 2028).

If he signs an 8 year deal and the team isn't competitive for 4 or 5 years, just like other star plays stuck on middling teams, he may just demand a trade. These guys want a chance to win and not waste their mid to late 20s struggling.
I was all for a proper tear it down rebuild before, but I think the plan is to pivot now with Wolf looking like the real deal, and I am convinced the Flames are going to lean into that. Given that approach, which I don't necessarily endorse but do accept as reality, I don't think waiting around for a #1 center in the meantime is prudent. I think it's OK to fill other holes in the meantime if a tear down isn't on the menu. Honestly, I don't think any Andersson trade is getting us the quality of center back that we need and I think there is no way this team will be bad enough to get a top 3-5 draft pick where you draft elite centers. So I am fine going for the likes of Robertson or even Rossi. McTavish would be the dream, but I really doubt there is any chance of that.

Honestly if your argument against a proposed trade is that it improves the team too much any debate is pointless
