Caps make a Point, ship McD to the Devils
The McD sweeps were in full force over the last few days and the Devils swept in and grabbed McD this afternoon.
Devils sendPoint, Brayden (C) NHL
Schneider, Braden (D) AHL
Helenius, Konsta (C) ECHL
Parascak, Terik (RW) ECHL
Caps send
The Caps are trying to recoup some pieces and Helenius and Parascak add to my prospect pool, Schneider will jump to the CPHL team as a regular.
Point, although solid, will go on my trade block in a further attempt at recouping assets for this team.
Thanks for the talks Pat, always great!

Nice deal. Caps needed to build back up the asset base and got good value for McDavid, who has always been a bit of a tough trade in this league. I like the fact the deal includes another high value asset in Point that can be flipped for more assets.
And the Devils become a much more serious contender instantly.

I have been rebuilding the roster this off season to make a major push for another cup.
Although I was happy with my 1-2 down the middle in Point and Hischier it was hard not to attempt to get the best player in hockey. After taking multiple stabs at trying to acquire Mackinnon with no success I sent Cheese a message knowing he was in a tough spot and needed to build out his team with the limited resources he has.
I feel in theory the sim should react well with my projected top line of Tkachuk - McDavid - Connor. In theory a great blend of toughness, speed, playmaking and scoring but who knows with the sim. I mortgaged the future a little but but still feel strong with my prospect pool as well as feel strong if I ever wanted to rebuild I could get some top picks/prospects with the CPHL assets I have.
Thanks Cheese for the deal.

Nice move! I can't believe that McDavid moved without a 1st round pick being involved.

Woof what an awful deal.
One guy gave up the best player in the league
The other guy traded for an Oiler.
Terrible all around.

IMO this trade is a win for the Devils. Point is highly rated, but he is not McDavid. Helenius and Parascek don't move the needle enough for me.
What Cheese does with Point and the remaining stars is key for me. IMO any time the focus is to retool and rebuild, the top asset to have/acquire is your own 1st. Goffie has #1 Was 26 (not sure about 27) and with this trade he has to be looking at the value of #1 Was 26 as higher than it was before this trade. Cheese still has some stars, but his pick is trending to be a lottery pick and before the trade his team might be a playoff team. A trade talk involving his 1st and a star like McDavid (or one of his other stars) should have been attractive for both Cheese and Goffie. The value of that pick is much more valuable in Cheese's hands than Goffie's.

Does this sort of trade involving an Oiler really deserve it's own thread? Come on guys...

Paulie did a number on that team. Traded all his assets, picked up cheese last year for cheese this year. Cheese has no cap, very little for picks and way short to field a roster. I think he continues to rip it apart, should get that 1st back 1st IMO.

My biggest concern is sim performance. I just don't think McDavid is a significant gap between Point in terms of the randomness of the sim - they likely perform fairly similar.

Good luck getting the 1st back. Not worth it for what Goffie will ask for it.

Cheese is approaching this exactly how he needs to IMO. Split McDavid into 4 assets, then split Point into multiple assets. Grow back a prospect pool, stockpile young assets. Caps are going to be fine.

I know, I targeted that 1st with Marner and got nowhere. I believe that it will be a lottery pick, and Cheese probably keeps it going and trades more star players for prospects.
But I would drive the value of that pick down until Goffie caves in even if it took half of the season. If you are fighting for the playoffs mid-season, maybe he trades it as it will be less valuable to him than it would be for Cheese to get it back.
Sucks for Cheese that the wrong guy has his 1st. But that is usually how it goes, the GMs that end up with all the 1sts usually value them.

I like the assets but when the season is over, lottery day is approaching, the value of a pick slotted in the top 5 and a chance at being #1 is extremely valuable. At one point Rav and I had discussions of 7 1sts for Bedard and one of the 1sts ended up being Celebrinni due to a lottery win for Rav. The trade got held up as I demanded CGY 1st in 2024 and Rav would not include it and wanted to do 6 1sts. I should have done it, but when you get a young superstar at the top of the draft, other assets don't look that good anymore and the asset rich team will pay a ton to get that guy.
I still ended up with a haul for Bedard, but who wins that trade relies on where the picks I got end up in the 2026 draft.
Of course, Cheese will fix that team, but Mcdavid could have got him his 1st back. For me that should be move 1, if he plans to rebuild.

7 1sts for Bedard would have been a pretty wild deal.
This was the deal as it went down:
Team: Calgary Flames
- Lowry, Adam (C) NHL
- Batherson, Drake (C) NHL
- Cowan, Easton (RW) ECHL
- 2025 1st Round Draft Choice (nj)
- 2026 1st Round Draft Choice (tor)
- 2026 1st Round Draft Choice (van)
Team: Colorado Avalanche
- Seguin, Tyler (RW) NHL
- Veleno, Joe (C) NHL
- Bedard, Connor (C) ECHL
- 2026 3rd Round Draft Choice (nyr)

But by driving the value of the pick down, it becomes less meaningful to Cheese. If you are fighting for the playoffs mid-season, it's hard to fall way down the standings.
Unless of course you just trade every player you have and stock your club purely with waiver pick ups.

lol it's the way to go!
If Cheese doesn't go that direction, then it's ok. I said that the trade for me depends on what the next move is though. Point out for picks/prospects drive his team down the standings anyways.
