You can see the difference between the players for Alcaraz it's a matter of how often he can hit that peak level which he did in the first set but abandoned him for the rest of the match, while Sinner just maintained his high level of play from start to finish and took care of business.

Liam Draxl won the Winnipeg Challenger event earlier today and will have a career high ranking of #121 on Monday.

This was a big win by Jannik to stop the Charlie streak of victories in the H2H and send a strong message that he's not going to be able to waltz to wins at Wimbledon. The most impressive thing to me is that he stepped up the aggression in the 4th set and played to win the match and not even chancing things going to a 5th set.

I don’t even think he has to do much of anything more on clay. Nerves and god mode Carlos are the only reasons we’re not already preparing to watch his calendar slam coronation in eight weeks. Especially if this new tactic of moving forward to starve opponents of time sticks. I would like to be in the lab to see what Carlos and his team cook up as a counter for this.

Uncle Toni was a great coach for a young Nadal but it was clear in 2015-2016 Nadal's career looked to be done. Changing to Moya enabled Nadal to win an insane 8 more majors from 2017-2022.

"[Alcaraz] has a habit of letting his level rise and fall like some King tide, dictated less by celestial bodies and more by scoreboard mass; so good in big moments, so careless in inconsequential ones, so much so that they end up having some consequence."
So right.

I don't know if a player that has built his game around improvisation can ever be as consistent as someone with much more predictable patterns like Sinner. Against Carlos, the danger is never knowing what type of ball is coming next. Against Carrot, chances are you can guess what the next ball is, but you still can't do anything about it.

I don't know how you're going to spoil anything when you lose in the first round of a grand slam, but hey, whatever helps you sleep at night...
