Which song was it?

A few months ago I was at Piper’s in Pompano Beach (Florida of course) talking to a guy named Steve and his wife. Nice folks. He looked familiar but I just couldn’t place him. Then he joined the jam on stage.

It was Steve Harris. Nicko is around a lot as he lives here and has a rib place. Very rarely Bruce.

Joey Belladonna and Dave Spitz too.

I don't think calling out a bad metal song is gatekeeping. That was a one note song with Lil Wayne all auto-tuned up. If you like it, great but it's as simplistic and disposable as today's pop music.

I think the only newish bands I've kind of sort of enjoyed recently have been Bad Omens and Poppy. Even then it's not my genre. I'm not a big break down guy. I love my upswings and build ups and thrash and blast beats.

Hell the last album I got really excited for was either the new cradle of filth or the new Darkest Hour. But now I see there's new Deftones.

I guess it's a sign I'm getting older now. I like to stay in my lane of Tool, Parkway Drive, Devil driver, Slayer, Cradle, In Flames, Darkest Hour, heck most of the "Gothenburg sound" bands. And the old tried and true Swedish hardcore punk Like Raised Fist.

If you like the Gothenburg sound, I'm curiouus to now if you've listened to the new Halo Effect?
I find they scratch the old melodic death metal itch. It's a lot of ex-In Flames members with Mikael Stanne on vocals (and even he's ex-In Flames too).

A few months ago I went on an all- day Tool binge. Just blasted it all day.

Next day my neighbor asks “Do you know who was playing all that horrendous music yesterday?”

You’ve done well, Reverend Maynard.

I like the Halo Effect but to me it's kind of Dark Tranquility with a sprinkle of In Flames riffs thanks to Jesper Stromblad's writing. Not that it's a bad thing as I'm also a big fan of the Gothenburg era of bands.

I was speaking in general in reference to the post I quoted. You’re right that there’s not wrong with calling out something you don’t like.

That's the super band right? Inflames Dark Tranquility and some of At the gates of I'm not mistaken. I've listened to a couple.of songs but haven't really been in a position to really give them a honest rinse. They're good. How can they not be with that line up. Although Stanne can get a bit tiring vocally for me. Love DT but his lelodics are hit and miss.
