Mavi Diary - Day 10
Dear Diary. One thing about me that people don’t know is just how funny I am. It’s widely recognized amongst teammates and media. I’m going to put the links here so that when I have a sad day, like when I get a + for being on the ice but I don’t get a point, I can look back.
While I’m on it diary, I’m against the minus in plus and minus. And I think that power play goals should count for pluses. Why should I be punished because oilers got a power play when an opponent fell down within 15 feet of me?
This one is a personal favourite: people are literally laughing in the video. I was close to tears from the laughter inside myself. I was smiling inside, but my look is an imperceptible witty meh.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hA-Ar81OKOk
Here’s one where I was being serious but people think it’s funny so just wanted to show what a prankster I am:
https://www.tiktok.com/@bardown/vide...94120863091973
I was actually being serious about only passing because Leon needed more goals to hit his bonus. We agreed to support each other.
Here’s another great one of me kidding around. We don’t play defence. If we did, how would we find the time to score goals? Don’t want to play defence either. I told uncle Ken and GM Stan that I didn’t ever want to be put in a position where we sign or draft or trade for defenders and I have to answer stupid shutout questions. Has anyone ever won when everyone gets shutouts? It’s just a bunch of ties with no one getting their scoring and assist bonuses.
You can see the glitter of anger encroaching on middle emotion meh here…I almost busted out my disgust emotion.
https://www.facebook.com/reel/693450603391775
I’m a laugh a minute guy which is why people love me.
Until tomorrow.

I dont know why, but the fact that this question comes from 'dirk diggler' is something I find particularly funny.

Yep. They may wait a bit for the smoke to clear but I don't believe that he's not an option they are considering.

I’m not an insider at all, but know a player that plays in the AHL and runs in reasonably close circles and it has been discussed from what I understand. Some real Orange Julius stuff there…….

I assume it's his father, Sylvain, who was the Oilers' goalie coach when Olivier was drafted.
After a decade with the Oilers/Condors, last season, he became the goalie coach with Charlotte, the AHL affiliate of the Panthers.
It looks like the Oilers didn't give Olivier a QO and he's currently a UFA, so maybe he is looking at moving into coaching.

He apparently never wanted to be behind the bench to begin with, but ownership insisted.
He probably just wants to go back to managing and making racial slurs with his OJHL team.

Should have put mactavish to supervise him like they did to Nelson.
Awww who am I kidding. Defensive coach is not needed as we’ve been told they are 99th percentile. And they only care about offense only.

Quote:
A shakeup behind Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch had the NHL club changing goalie coaches and Hall of Fame defenceman Paul Coffey shifting from behind the bench to an upstairs adviser role.
Paul McFarland came on board as a power-play specialist after Glen Gulutzan’s departure to become head coach of the Dallas Stars, Peter Aubry replaced Dustin Schwartz as goalie coach and Connor Allen will serve in a skills development role.
The club stated Monday that Coffey returns to his role as a special adviser to ownership and hockey operations after a more hands-on role as an assistant coach in charge of defencemen.
Assistant coach Mark Stuart’s contract was extended to continue as penalty kill specialist, while Stuart also assumed responsibility of the defencemen.
|
Quote:
McFarland was head coach of the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen after three years as a Seattle Kraken assistant from the team’s expansion year in 2021 to 2024. The 39-year-old was also previously an assistant with the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs.
|
Quote:
Schwartz was Edmonton’s goalie coach for over a decade, but the Oilers aim for more consistency under 48-year-old Aubry, who was an associate coach at Nebraska-Omaha (NCAA) for two seasons.
He also spent eight seasons (2015-16 to 2023-24) as the Chicago Blackhawks’ developmental goaltending coach as well as the goaltending coach for the team’s AHL affiliate in Rockford.
|
Quote:
Allen, 35, spent last season with the United States’ under-17 team and recently worked in skill development with the Sioux City Musketeers. The Oilers also confirmed a contract extension for video coach Noah Segall.

Mavi Diary - Day 11
Dear diary. Well, it’s finally happened! I got to see a phenomenal hockey player with my own two eyes! Talked to him too! No you big silly, I know that I can look in the mirror any time that I want (although there was that time when I had too many fizzy ginger ales and I tried to throw the hobo in my house out - thanks Lauren for helping me to punch myself to understand that the bum in the mirror was actually me), and of course Leon is a pretty good player too but he is at my house too much and honestly he keeps scuffing the ceiling on my basketball court so I’m mad about that.
I met Wayne Gretzky! He said “hello Connor” and I said “hello Wayne” and he said “Connor, you can call me Mr. Gretzky.”
Mr Gretzky and I chatted for a bit and he was speaking funny and slurring. It was like talking with Leon after Leon has head butted a few opponents. Mr. Gretzky explained that he owned a winery and a distillery. He asked me if I could guess the number and I said 97. He was put out and asked why I would choose that when it was 99.
Mr. Gretzky explained that he personally checked the quality of everything that he made “from the inside of the bottle, from top to bottom.” He must do a lot of testing!
I’ll see you tomorrow diary!
