We obviously didn’t get most value for Hanifin because Conroy got kneecapped by the player and his agent.

Unprotected 2026 first is pretty damn high value for a pending UFA
Hanifin looked like a bum against the Oilers (again)

With the benefit of hindsight, Hanifin is a pretty unspectacular player. He's a steady top 4D and that sometimes results in a good return at the trade deadline, but not always. The player isn't the difference between a team winning it all or not. As a very poor comparable, Marchand also dictated where he went, is a far more effective playoff player, and the Bruins got a conditional second that became a first only.
I'm not saying that the Hanifin trade was stellar or anything, but I struggle to see the glaring error that many people are suggesting. Conroy got a first for Hanifin and a project player who had put in minutes for the Flames since the trade.

Let see who we draft with Vegas’s first. If we get a franchise player everyone will be talking about the Hanifin trade being the greatest trade ever. Or vice versa.
I would suggest we get the full value of the trade before people get too excited about it.

I need to get over that you pronounce yourself correct at generically saying there’s posters who think the Flames did badly in the Hanifin trade?

I dont think it matters who they pick. If we got a 7th round pick and drafted a 500 goal scorer the trade was still bad value. The only way it becomes a good trade is if Vegas craps the bed and it ends up being high.

The best way to determine if you are on the right side of an issue, is by the amount of thanks you get on your posts.
I actually don't even know what point you were making, just laughed at the last part of your post. Getting a thanks is pretty much a popularity contest at times.

No one has been on your dick for decades and that must explain why you're the massive grump that you are.
Congrats on some likes I guess, to a comment I didn't deny, let alone even reply to but try for some likes in real life now.
Not sure what the topic you're stuck in from 5 years ago is, but it does conclude that you're the one in need to "get over it and move on with your life!".

Well I'm not popular so when I get thanks its usually because I made a post on point that people agree with

Technically, Vegas still traded a protected pick. It only became unprotected when they traded their 2025 1st to San Jose for Hertl.

I think Conroy did well in the Hanifin trade, but he did well under the circumstances. If Hanifin and his agent weren't working behind the scenes, he should have returned a larger package. A conditional 1st + Conditional 3rd + Miromanov is a disappointing return vs full value of the asset (obviously my opinion), but a decent return given the restrictions that Conroy was operating under.
I don't think there is any reason to complain now. This is just one of the handicaps that many teams have to operate under now (teams that aren't destinations) and a handful of teams get to reap the benefits of (teams that are destinations). So you either have to adjust and trade players 1+ year out, or you take a hit on the return. I think teams will act accordingly depending on where they are in their compete spectrum, at least for assets that are perceived as holding high value. People may not like it, but it is probably what some teams will do moving forward under some circumstances.
