Seriously, if Nenshi stands silently on the sidelines while Alberta is banning books then I've lost all hope for him too.

It's actually probably a hard situation for Nenshi. I doubt the book banning's are as politically unpopular as you think they are, and screaming into the wind about something most people don't care about won't help anyone get elected, it might hurt.
For better or worse issues that are closer that 70-30 are for the governing party to deal with while they are governing. The ANDP needs to be focused on the self dealing, reductions in government services, coal mining the Rockies, driving investment out of the province, the losing fight against all of the provincial unions... the UPC has done all of these things and more that are very unpopular.
It would be fair for him to comment that it's not something his party would have done, but he shouldn't put any energy into this topic.

I attended an Alberta Prosperity Plan revival meeting last night; it did resemble a religious revival meeting. Jeff Rath and Dennis Modry are great, persuasive speakers (spewing bu11sh1t). The other side had better be ready and organized because these guys are. They’re taking their stupid road show all over Alberta. I’m warning: if less intelligent fence sitters listen to those guys, they’ll be turned separatist. I took notes of some of my favourite lies.
For example, a speaker said that the average CPP pension is $738 a month and the speaker said if he’d been allowed he could have set up his own to pay $6,000 (to loud applause).
Some others:
-there is proof that 100 of 111 Manitoba forest fires are arson.
-Maggie Trudeau married into Carney’s family.
-they’re passing laws to allow the government to break laws with impunity.
-well over 50% of Albertans favour separation.
-Carney is totally in bed with the WEF and its insane policies. (I have to search the WEF and read up.)

That’s the politics part. There’s also a morality part.

I hate this line of thinking. The UCP are awful, but I don't really like what the leader of the ANDP has to say about it, so I wont vote for them and make sure the UCP win again.

It has nothing to do with voting UCP, i have made my stance upon that pretty clear, but we need an opposition that will actually stand up and be counted when our Government is banning books in schools.
What are we going to do with all of these 'banned books?' Have a good old fashioned Book-Burning Party in Olympic Plaza?

Luckily Nenshi is a politician, not a moral philosopher.
Like I said, if asked Nenshi could say he doesn't agree with the policy. But those of us who want Smith gone, just can't afford him wasting energy issues like this. The people who will care and agree are already on their side, short of winning they cant actually do anything about this one.

Its not like these kids have access to every single type of explicit video/content known to man in the palm of their hands.
But yeah books are the problem here Dani!

The standards for each party are wildly different if the guy NOT banning books catches something from it. Nenshi cannot go into outrage mode everytime (daily) Smith does something stupid. Voters will tune him out

If they're banning books about S.E.X. it won't end there.
Next are history of the indigenous community, in particular the treatment thereof. After that, gender roles, and on and on.

I believe some of the initial outrage included Critical Race Theory, which isn't even a thing in Canada, certainly not by that name

Yep. Morality be damned, you have to focus on winning before you can do a damn thing and you need to pick the right battles at the right time in order to win.

"A government survey on the topic launched after Nicolaides's announcement found that the majority of respondents across demographics didn't support the government setting new standards for library books."
And the government is moving ahead with it anyway. This is why when they float #### like the APP I get concerned. They don't care if there is support, they'll do stuff to appease their fringe base.

The only way Smith will be gone is if a new PC party splits the vote on the right.
Or, of she is found guilty of serious misconduct.

Not to dispute your point or the ridiculousness of this whole policy, but that's actually in Chapter 19.
