I would say the Roy's were most certainly not the smartest in the room.
You could argue Logan (L to the OG) was smart, given his years in the industry and building Waystar Royco up, but as the seasons sort of revealed, the company was saddled with massive amounts of debt and had some ethical issues (Mo Lester).
The kids were completely inept, and ultimately involved in one giant game of snakes and ladders to become daddy's heir. None of them were fit for the role and it clearly showed.
Perhaps they could've done it together, but their own (un-earned) sense of importance was their ultimate downfall.
The rest of the cast were sniveling "yes men" playing their own game of kiss-ass in the hopes that their star rises.
In the end, the stagnant business was sold off to some drug-addled tech "genius" to re-vamp into the "future" while, the kids tried desperately to cling to any crumb of power and authority they could.
Fitting that the ultimate winner was a nepotism #### willing to let the owner bang his wife for a chance at "authority".
Sorry for all the "quotes"
I thought it was a funny show with insight into the innerworkings of powerful businesspeople (satirical, but also largely based off Rupert Murdoch). How many people subscribe to the billionaire bootlicking mentality have probably never met someone from the ilk.
Many lucky people got in the right industry/market at the right time (while countless others failed for unlucky reasons) and now use their power, money, and influence to continue the charade - or their incompetent kids do.
I mean I'll see it out, but it ain't really ground breaking.

Alternate take: Nathan Fielder produces cruel and exploitative reality TV for an audience who thinks they’re too clever for regular reality TV.
lol
Anywho, seasons two of The Rehearsal is much better than the first. I found the first too dark at times and Nathan to be unlikable and honestly creepy. Part of that was how covid totally threw it for a loop during production. Think they had to pivot and it shows in the episode.
Tell me how much you enjoy the first 15 minutes of cliched yelling and bluster, rife with nonsense industry jargon. It might get better after that, but I wasn't sticking around to find out. And I watched all of FTWD, so I have a very thorough understanding of ####ty TV.

That is a cromulent point.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I'll speak for those with a less sophisticated palate....it is great. I'd say what may lack in story line is made up for in performances.
I'm slowly working through it, the performances, for the most part are pretty good, Billy Bob is who he is and thats great, some other good acting as well.
But Holy Hell they made every female character on this show just absolutely despicable. Every one of them is awful. Their acting is bad, they're written poorly, its just glaring.

I'm not sure I can truly identify the Golden Era of TV
I think it roughly started with The Sopranos. Basically, appointment viewing television, with exceptional writing and star power.
I think he's saying Succession is probably going to be the last example of this, but I could be wrong...and also he could be wrong about that opinion. For me, The Bear still checks those boxes, but it seems to be winding down. White Lotus is also an example of this, but it isn't for everyone the way some other shows are and skews a little more niche audience.

What's glaring is that writing probably should be the teeniest tiniest bit realistic. Kill or maim a few guys a day through accident or negligence? Carry on boys
OSHA doesn't operate in west Texas, apparently.
In terms of Sheridan crap, it's not the most awful. Because Billy Bob

It took me a while but once I realized that none of the Roy family were "good" and I wasn't supposed to like any of them, the show clicked for me in a massive way. Then I came full circle and liked most of them. The Greg and Tom stuff is just peak television for me.
