“Sportsnet+ is the most comprehensive live sports streaming experience in Canada,” said Sportsnet spokesperson Jason Jackson, in a statement e-mailed to The Globe and Mail. “This update reflects that great value for sports fans looking for the best sports content in the country, while remaining competitively priced with other options in the market.”

What are these 'other options' they are referring to?

This is the heart of the issue. I'd gladly pay if it worked well. The fact is pirate sites are way way way more reliable.

I already just buy it monthly when there’s a run of events I’m interested in. A tight playoff race, playoffs that I care about, the odd other sports event. MLB playoffs if the Jays make it. Early/mid-season hockey? Not watching it anyway.
So maybe 3-4 months a year at now $30/month.

The least they could do with this price hike is make it so you can stream multiple programs at the same time. The fact you can be logged into 5 devices on yiur account but can’t view on multiple devices at once is beyond toxic. Want to watch football and hockey at the same time? Better pay $700 to do it.

Maybe not. But interesting that their cancellation page literally crashed due to traffic about 30 mins after this email was broadcast and going viral (as viral as a Canadian streaming service can go) on twitter, Reddit, etc.

Are there any alternatives? Legal or not does not matter to me. I feel like I will have to keep paying for Sportsnet as I almost exclusively watch games 1-2 hours after they start so that I can skip commercials and intermissions.

It's just basic business. Raise prices to a level where you lose customers, but not at the same percentage as your price increase.
Even if they lose 20% of their customers, it's a win. They decrease the bandwidth required and increase their bottom line by 10%. Win.
And at $350 for 82 Flames games, that's $4.25/game. That's still worth it to the majority. Especially when you can watch games on delay or after the fact. Nevermind the other games or sports you can watch with it.

I mean, it doesn't say it isn't going up either lol.
And DAZN has a similar history. I wouldn't let that roll over without a look see.

It's pretty normal across most business models. Retail, Food, Ticketed events...
And if the response is that you can steal it, then you're not a customer that they're worried about.

Read a good comment on twitter:
“Great, so now we can get force fed more content on Rogers chosen teams.”
As far as business models go, Snet has obviously missed the memo about growth being the driver to revenue generation through compelling content, engaging personalities, and absolutely top notch presentation using 2025 technologies.
It is not a sustainable business model to say “let’s increase rates by 30% but we only lost a quarter of our subscribers (25%) so we are ahead by 5%.”
Sustainable business models increase subscribers faster than operating costs, not by decreasing subscribers while reducing operating costs.

Don't worry, us seasoned pirates will help out those here who don't want to pay extra for bottom of the barrel Flames coverage.
Just click cancel.
I wish we signed on with TSN like the Habs are. Rogers has cheapened the presentation of what we love and there should be a message sent in response.
