I do agree with the sentiment, although i dont think that suggested trade is bad ay all.
We need quality over quantity.
In these deals we need to try and be on the quantity side to get quality upgrades.
We have enough bodies all over the place, we need clear upgrades. Flip Rasmus + winger + futures and get a young blue chipper.
Obviously easier said then done though.

Oo, I like the variety of packages/pieces DAL could offer.
A lot of talents to like over there, some flying under the radar as well.

Johnston is not Leon Draisaitl.

Why would they sign him to an extension to turn around and deal him for Rasmus freaking Andersson.
I think people really need to set expectations on the return on him now after the Flames screwed up here.

Late first, 3rd and a B prospect is the most that's gonna get offered.

There isn't much to add to Andersson that makes sense to get Johnston from the Stars. Markstrom for the 10th and Mercer and Lindholm for 3rd all over again

Yeah, I don't see Johnston at all unless Nill was gonna bite on recouping a 2026 1st (Vegas) that he blew his load on for Rantanen.
Maybe....maybe Nill bites on an Andersson and Vegas 1st package. I highly doubt it, but it is possible.

BS. We go through this every year with players. Eichel was untouchable in Buffalo, until he wasn't. If you had said we should trade for Robertson or that he would be traded last year people would say he isn't moving. Hell, the poster boy for EA sports two years ago was just traded for peanuts. A sure fire budding superstar that the people in this board that say Johnston is untouchable would have said the same thing about Zegras back then. Noah Dobson at the beginning of this year? Untouchable. No way in hell the Avs are trading Rantanen, they will get that signed, it would be crazy to deal him right? The list goes on and on of players that are untouchable in fans eyes, except they are not. If you offered Dallas Andersson on an extension with this season being 50% retained, Coleman at 50% retained, Zary, and Vegas's 1st the Stars are instantly a better team without Johnston and get a future piece out of the deal as well. They also then can hold into their young star winger as well while still having very solid C depth with room made for Bourque who if he is going to develop needs more minutes at C

I’d rather they do it right than rush into things and continue being a failure.
It’s also funny you said you don’t see Dallas doing a retool but want them to make a retool trade with us.

Sure there is..... I just posted it.
Johnston + Lyubushkin for Andersson (retained) + Coleman (retained) + Pospisil
Dallas gets:
- RD solution to fix their D group, on the super cheap ($2.25M)
- 2 years of Coleman, also on cheap ($2.45M)
- Pospisil, cheap agitator built for the playoffs ($1M)
- 3 of 6 Calgary Flames retention slots over the next 2 years (2 this year, 1 next year) Note: All retention slots would be used for this season and could not be used for other trades, such as Backlund
- Unloading Lyubushkin and his $3.25M dead weight contract off the books for this season AND next
- With Johnston leaving, they get an additional $6M in cap space to make another move
Calgary gets:
- Johnston
- Lyubushkin ... buried, traded, or bought out
OR
Johnston for Andersson (retained) + Coleman (retained) + Pospisil + Vegas 2026 1st
As we've learned, 1st round picks have all of the value. The other 3 pieces are just there for garnish.

Sure but it’s not Rasmus Andersson (or any package from the Flames) that forces the Stars to part with a player like Johnston.
Johnston is the type of asset that you part with for a Quinn Hughes.

Eichel and the Sabres got into a fight about his neck.
Robertson hasn't been traded yet but there is already beef between him and the owner.
Avs didn't want to sign Rantanen at his contract demands but could have kept him if they chose.
Zegras regressed hard.
Dobson had a year left and the Islanders landed the 1st overall in the lottery.
Go find the plethora of progressing young players on long term contracts that have been traded.

Lmao, you clearly don't know what a retool is if you think a retooling team trades a 22 year old C for a 23 year old C, and two older vets lol.

That is a bad trade for Dallas. Johnston might be the best center on their roster as soon as next season. Dallas doesn't have the center depth to give him up.

Agreed, it is like Bourque + 2027 1st for retained Andersson. You aren’t getting Bischel either….

They actually do have the depth at C... that's the point.
What they don't have is a natural RD who can put up more than 1 goal last season.

I’ve got nothing imminent on this.
But Dallas is a team that has kept an eye on Rasmus and has just as much interest as VGK.
I do believe Rasmus would extend there as well from what I’ve heard.
Return is the speculative part, it could go a number of ways depending on what CGY wants to add if any. I personally would be ecstatic if Bischel was part of the pkg, he would look great on the left for a long time.
