Agree, I prefer that too for the same reasons. Personally I’d probably only really be happy about the pick being moved if the return involved the a young centre with #1 potential. Unfortunately that seems about as likely as a unicorn winning a Stampede event this week lol.

I don't know if that post really proves anything. Why would Conroy come out and say he tried to offer sheet someone but they wanted too much money. There is no advantage to being transparent about that, and could hurt connections going forward around the league if he straight out announces that he thinks a player wants too much money.
|
The simplest answer is that Conroy never tried to offer sheet Byram and Boomer was wrong.

Where has GM CC been making the same mistakes as his predecessor? He’s been compiling boat loads of picks, picking them, actually getting assets back for pieces that are expiring and really outside of the Hanifin return (which is still to be decided based on that 26 1st) I don’t think Conny has lost any trades really, at least not outright or terribly to this point. This management team has literally done everything to separate itself from past leadership decisions and have done remarkably well, they only had the season they had last year too on the backs of some incredible rookie/young player performances and some great performances as well out of Kads/Huby. If you’re at all upset with the current direction of this club it’s because you’re wanting to find something to be upset about in my eyes, there really should be nothing but unfettered excitement for flames fans and the direction of this team versus past eras. Conroy is doing things patiently, methodically and seems to be measured in his decision making. I personally have full confidence in the direction of the team and can’t wait to see it continue to unfold.

IMO opinion Boomer made an assumption that because they were taking contract and it was well over the 1st round threshold, that the Flames were considering him signing the offer sheet.
I think the reality is the Flames wanted to trade for him and were using the RFA offer sheet process to get a gauge on what sort of contract it would take to sign him if a trade was done. How often are you able to talk to a player like that. Buffalo, either scared of an offer sheet from another team or wanting to stop teams from talking to Byram, took him to arbitration.

I said don't make the same mistakes.
It seems like he was shopping the Vegas 1st rounder.

Seems and like are the most important words there and it’s all speculative at this point so no sense in getting bent out of shape constantly over things that haven’t happened yet.

If he is shopping that first for a young center. Personally if it cost us a first, just as an example for mctavish, i woud have zero problem with it.

I don’t think it is the end of the world to trade an 18 or later first round pick for an age appropriate player. Nothing scary about it at all

It’s a signal they are ready to go in. He’s brought in 2 1st round picks and potentially shopping it already.
Steinburg said the Vegas 26 is on the table and maybe our 27 1st.

It's a signal that the GM is looking to fill glaring organizational holes with age appropriate talent. That's all.

Trying to fill gaps without high end talent is a mistake.
You don’t build and team and hope to land top 5 talent by trading away picks and prospects for now players son you can finish 16 again

I’m not going to be worried about the 27 pick when the 26 season hasn’t been played. The signal that they are ready to go in would be trading the Vegas pick for an older player or deadline acquisition.

Just fine, getting a talent like Hamilton is fine at any time. Were you looking to say Hamonic? lol.

I think Hamilton singled we are in. Hamonic was an over the top double down.

Hamilton was taking a distressed asset for relatively cheap that was then flipped for better value. I’m never going to get too worried about a trade like that. The Hamonic trade definitely sucked but he wasn’t close to Hamilton talent wise.

Dougie trade was good, but I think we were further along when we made that deal, and Dougie was a much better piece then Byram currently is.
