The Flames only have themselves to blame. They should have dealt him a year or two ago and actually maximized his value. They waited last minute with Hanifin and got a very weak return. History will likely repeat itself again here.

Two years ago he was halfway through a 6 year deal.
Hell, maybe they should have traded him right after he signed - max value, man.

After Johnny and Tkachuk bolted that was a perfect time to deal him. That was the ideal time to start the rebuild. The year previously when they sold off their other UFAs would have been another ideal time to trade him. I know being proactive is such a foreign concept for Flames management and fans.

So you'd have traded Andersson either after his breakout 50 point season at the age of 25, or the year before where he had 21 and was 24.
Uh huh.

I was not on this forum at the time. But EVERYONE I knew in real life was pumped about the Huberdeau and Weegar trade.
They were also pumped with the Kadri signing.
It is easy to criticize now, but people were crowning Brad Treliving a king at that time. It is too bad how the trade turned out, but on paper it was pretty much as good a trade as you can get given the circumstances.

How could anybody have not been pumped about the Huberdeau/Weegar/2025 conditional 1st trade for Matty when it happened. That by all measures was a huge boon for the Flames. What set it back was the immediate signing of Huberdeau. Which in hindsight maybe they should have waited a season to sign him. Then again I understand the pressure of ensuring your lock in those assets you acquired for the franchise player Tkachuk was and is. Double edged sword I suppose.

Should have traded him when he was a fetus. Would have gotten a haul.

Yep, even non-Flames fans were saying the Flames did good. Some even thought they won the trade.

On a bad team that misses the playoffs, yeah it's a good idea. I wish we'd be more ruthless about asset management. I guess nobody paid attention to what the Islanders or Boston did

Truculent!

I would have gone one step forward and never have ever drafted Rasmus, prevents this situation from ever happening!

Got some real value out of the Sven Baertchi trade.

Should have drafted Kucherov instead and saved us all this trouble.

Actually, why even bother with GMs or management? Just let a fan vote run the teams. I'm sure that would turn out well.

Oh ya, that would go great. Like John Scott in the All Star game.

TBF, that was actually a pretty fun and awesome story. Fans really shouldn't take the game seriously all the time, least of all the all-star game.
