Where there is smoke there is fire.
Conroy said he was going to try and take some big swings this summer. Friedman said Calgary has tried to take big swings this summer. Various respected media have had the Flames in on several left shot D, a couple of which likely would have required a first. Now we hear they were considering an offer sheet but decided not to due to the contract.
This is from a team that consistently has tried to put a competitive roster forward, even when they arguably should be focused on a rebuild. Conroy himself has prioritized acquiring mid 20s players, even trading a second, seventh, and a prospect to get Frost and Farabee.
If he is considering trading the Flames 1st then that is really concerning. But we don't know that for sure as he hasn't pulled the trigger yet. But at a minimum he is at least trying to make moves to early for where we are in the rebuild.

Trade wise:
Great:
Lindholm and Marsktrom
Okay:
Toffoli, Frost and Farabee
Underwhelming:
Hanifin, tanev and zadorov
Signings have been a mixed bag so far too. Ive like some, Coronato, and disliked others, sharangovich. Limited sample size here as he hasn't done any notable UFAs yet (which is a good thing).
Drafts were solid overall. 2025 was good. 2024 was great. 2023 was ok.
I'd give him a B to B- so far. Good not great.

I would probably agree with your grade, but I see the Frost/Farabee trade as a definite win. Neither put up the offense that what was expected, but Farabee had the worst puck luck in the league in the second half, and Frosty's shiny defensive metrics carry him through scoreless droughts. I think both will rebound nicely this season.

Big time. Respect to Tarnasky for keeping his cool as much as he did, and giving the guy multiple outs.

The prospect you mention in the Farabee trade is one year younger than Farabee….
also nobody “considering an offer sheet but decided not to due to the contract”. Like the whole point of an offer sheet is to offer a contract, so you would never not offer a contract due to the contract.

Watch the video where Boomer talks about the potential offer sheet. He says from what he heard the Flames weren't as concerned about the picks as they were the term/value of the contract required to make it work, so they didn't do the offer sheet. Boomer is close to the team and doesn’t have a history of providing click bait "insider" info. Which suggests they were at least strongly considering the move.
As for the prospect, I am not concerned about Pelletier. He was on waivers earlier in the season. Plus, the trade was a good one value wise and both players are young. The point is that Conroy has already used picks to target mid 20 players.
I know people like Conroy and want to give him the benefit of the doubt. But Calgary has a long history of avoiding or rushing rebuilds. A healthy level of skepticism is warranted when there is this much smoke.

So in other words, it wasn't that Byram refused the offer sheet, it's that Conroy decided not to do one in the first place. I guess poor dumb Conroy was saved from his own stupidity by… himself?
I guarantee you discussions like that go on in every front office in the NHL. ‘So-and-so is eligible for an offer sheet. Does it make sense for us for X dollars and Y compensation?’ Nearly always the answer is ‘no’, so no offer is tendered. In some cases the offer is made but the player rejects it. It's only the tiny number of cases where an offer sheet is actually signed that we ever hear about.

I think we hear about 100% of the offer sheets that are signed.

That's what he said... only a tiny number of offer sheets are actually executed, and we only hear about those.

I'm sure the lawsuit is already coming against him. He should file one first.

I don’t think slow play as a drunk moron is an actionable tort that one could file a lawsuit over.

Sounds like Connie might have looked into it, but my guess is he wants to keep our pick. I liked having multiple firsts, hopefully we remain patient, trade some vets and stay the course. Acquiring Byram wouldn’t have been totally bad, but it would remind me of the Ryan O’Reilly trade if we did. The team obviously covets him based on metrics or their pro scouting which bodes well for him as a player, IMHO our scouting, analytics and development are top notch, hence why I want to see us use our picks at the draft or for young talent.

I think our amateur scouting has been really strong, but I'm not so sure our pro scouting deserves the same praise.

speaking of knowing everything, any update on which bandaids should have been ripped off earlier? Conroy inherited a lineup with 11 tradable veteran assets, he moved 7 of them in the first 12 months, re-signed one and did not move 3 of them. Which bandaids did he fail to rip off earlier? Specific examples would be great.

Do you ever post anything useful? I cannot recall a single post I have seen from you that isn't an insult or an angry rant against another user.
I do not know how you are not banned from the forums. You remind me of someone who was a bully in high school, who never matured. Your sole purpose on this forum is to be a dick and stir the pot.
I hope it makes you feel better to throw insults all day.
