Oilers with shiny new toy syndrome yet again. Also hilarious they gave up on their current best prospect - who they went out of their way to trade for - for Howard.

Probably a wash in terms of talent between the two, but Howard is more ready for NHL action and the Oilers are going to need a few players close to league minimum to fill out their thin-as-hell roster.

Tampa didn't want to burn off a year of the ELC by playing him late in the season, so I'm told.

Which is exactly why they make this trade. They get a guy 2 years closer to playing on an entry level which they desperately need. He either helps now or doesn’t, but by the time oreilly arrives if there’s no cup in the building (good chance there’s not) then it likely won’t matter as he’ll be too late.

Sam O'reilly will be a better player. Book it.

‘Win by default’ could not be more wrong. Zeev Buium, Ryan Leonard both had fantastic seasons

I would not have choose Howard, but he beat out a very good class

Tough day for Michigan State. Lose the McKenna sweepstakes and their best player.

Remember when the Savoie trade was daylight robbery and he was going to light it up with Mcdavid?

That's still in the hopper. He should be full time next year. Well at least that's what their talking heads are prophesising.

I don’t know who will be the better player if I’m being honest but i do know Howard is 2 years older and oilers now don’t have a first rounder or equivalent for 23,24,25,26 at some point there will be a day of reckoning but that’s likely not today as they acquired rhe plug in and play more nhl ready option

No other way to say it. This sucks.

Top tier offensive prospect available for trade in the age range we are looking for and he goes to our hated rivals

We didn’t have a center prospect to trade given our weakness in the position. If anything, was hoping we could move Andersson to them as they are short on D. But maybe TB flips o’reilly to us for Andersson. One can dream.

We are just in a different window than Edmonton/ we could have beat the trade return but he wants top 6 minutes with the wonder twins on a playoff team he was calling the shots here

He’s not a top tier prospect

So the Oilers traded for the 2024 1st because they couldn't pass on Sam O'Rielly, then they proceed to trade him for no reason a year later.

I wish the league GM's would quit helping the Oilers out of their self induced messes, though. Let them linger in their filth for awhile. I hope O'Reilly turns into a star and Howard becomes another Justin Schultz.

I don’t really think this is that lop sided.

Sam O’Reilly is not the top 6 center you are dreaming about.

Oilers once again thinking that adding more forwards will solve all of their holes on D and goaltending. Hilarious.

Isaac Howard can't save the Oilers. No one can.

No but it gives the Oilers a player to plug a hole next season. O'Reilly wouldn't make the team out of camp unless he really killed it in the preseason. Howard will be gifted a spot out of camp. I hope this backfires on them so bad!!

I could get on board with O'Reilly as part of the comp for an Andersson trade to TBL.

Decent sized, two-way RW - would slot in nicely behind Coronato

Evan Bouchard is the latest Oilers first rounder still with the team (2018) - they don’t possess any of their own firsts taken outside the top 10
