Probably less 'truculence' at the ncaa level as well, though I could be wrong

As bad as this is for the CHL, I think it's great for hockey and the players. Junior hockey has made bank off teenagers for an era. Would like to see some Canadian Universities develope decent hockey programs.

With the new CBA really hurting the ability for NCAA players to pull a Fox I am not sure this is really a factor anymore (I could be wrong):

Previously, NHL teams had different lengths of time they could retain the rights to players drafted from different leagues. Now, for players drafted at 18, teams will retain their rights until the fourth June 1 after they were drafted, regardless of whether they were drafted from the CHL, NCAA, or Europe.
|
So with that being said, not signing a pro contract until you are 22 isn't in the best interest for most top prospects. NIL certainly does change this I suppose. ie: Make 700k a year playing NCAA or 85k playing in the AHL

I agree, selfishly I am very happy Reschny is going to the NCAA - it is exactly what he needs. Have a ton of time and focus in the gym with amazing facilities and people.

Yup. People think the draft is for the players benefit when it is 100% definitely not. Things will change. You would not believe the red carpet Penn State is putting out. I saw some of the vids they produce and it would be near impossible to turn it down vs the CHL road trip indentured servitude league.
Pegulas have $$$ but refuse to spend it on their NHL team but seem to on Penn State,
Mckenna was telling kids at edge a few weeks ago he was going Michigan State, guess they sweetened the pot.
Dupont next in 6 months somewhere?
Curious how these schools are treating academics, because a bunch of these kids have pretty much ignored it for a while, they just do astronomy and phys ed?

^as a longtime college football fan I can say with 100% certainty that academics are not only secondary but barely register as a concern for any star player. If the kid wants to go to class great but if not there will be a team on hand to take care of it.

They don’t have to go to class anymore.

I thought some schools pretended to care in the past, but probably not. Probably IVY league guys.
I think the University way is best for the best but I know a few kids that have been treated brutally by some big schools. If you are not a top kid you can be cut loose and that scholy is gone. Lots of Calgary kids in big schools still only because they're parents have the dollars after a pulled scholarship.

I think the CHL trading teenagers from Tri-Cities to Brandon half way through their high school years is awful for kids. There is no way that should be happening. Recruit and develop the players you need like a university program does.

They can't do that anymore unless the high school kid agrees to the trade. Once they're done high school though they can be traded without permission from the player.

Nice to at least pretend these kids are learning something at the same time too.

Being in Kamloops, I was hoping to have the chance to watch Reschny live next year. The development path is probably a lot better going the NCAA route though.
I feel like this is going to happen more and more often. Unfortunate in a way.

The new rules don't really change anything for college players. The changes just make junior players have the same rules that European players have had since 2013 and college players have had forever.
