If it wasn't an offer sheet and it was the Vegas pick, thats a bit more acceptable. A lot more really. That one is probably going to be 18-32

Besides, Buffalo wants roster players. So small wonder they balked. And for tbr offer sheet, it’s negotiation. Just like Carolina and Miller.
|
They reported it was an offer sheet which means it has to be the Flames 1st.

I know Byram’s ceiling is a lofty target for Morin but I am very excited about Morin as a prospect, especially with him watching and trying to emulate and apply Lane Hudson’s tendencies last year to his own game. I can’t wait to see what he does with the Wranglers this coming season but of all the LD in the system he’s one I think that could be a really great player with a very small chance of being a top pairing D. His style would compliment very well with Parekh if all things worked out down the road, though I do agree Byram’s ceiling is more attainable and of a great need of this org… gladly not a the cost of the 26 1st!
Edit: adding a great article on Morin,

“My coach always told me ‘you have a way of slowing down the play,’ which is usually not good, but for me, it’s good, because I’m slowing down the play and finding a good option.

“He’s really, really good,” forward Caleb Desnoyers - the fourth-overall pick in this year’s NHL Draft - told me earlier this month at the NHL Scouting Combine. “Even at the Memorial Cup, he just showed what all his talent was all about. He’s just so good.
“I didn’t really see other guys walk the blue line as good as he does, and finding some shooting lanes. He’s unique at the style of play that he plays.”

Might have been the Carolina ploy of threatening an offer sheet to encourage a trade Buffalo was actually interested in. Or it's possibly just not true either.

I mean, we can speculate and that is fine. But Boomer likely has actual insider sources who told him this.
He isn't really one to post baseless rumors unless he has a good source. And he reported it was our 1st we offered. Which is automatic with an offer sheet.

I think you can find a fit to play the role you might be asking him to play for far less elsewhere. Byram isn't a known entity. There are question marks. I'd rather move one of the firsts in a package for a C than expend that kind of capital on a guy that may just be pretty meh.

You have to judge Conroy on the moves he makes, not on the rumours of what he could have potentially done.
So far, his moves have been winners, save for the Hanifin and Tanev trades. If Vegas won a playoff round last year, we would have had their 2nd rounder this year, which would have softened the blow since Miramanov was a bust.
Andersson, I'll reserve judgment on until he's actually traded.
Conroy will kick tires at everything and back away when it doesn't make sense for the team long term. I have no issues with that.

I think this is an important piece for many to consider for all rumours during silly season. I'm seeing many fans base their evaluation around management on unsubstantiated rumours during the offseason rather than things they actually have/haven't done.

Yeah, Vegas losing in game 7 in the first round in '24 sucked. Especially since they went up 2-0 in the series before losing 3 straight.
For Tanev, the first rounder on the table was to Edmonton, but they would have had to take Ceci and his contract as well. They also missed out on an extra 3rd because the Stars crapped the bed against the Oilers. At the end of the day we will see if Battaglia becomes a player.

I don’t believe Calgary made any sort of offer sheet formally.
They were looking at a trade, but from what I’ve heard there was NEVER any discussion about Calgary’s 2026 1st.
None.

Where do you think Boomer would have gotten that rumor from? He's probably as good an insider as anyone with the connections he has on the team.
Just seems weird he would state that unless he was really confident.

So the version we are believing is that Bowan Byram was presented with an offer of over 9 million dollars a year and he turned it down? Because to actually believe the Flames presented an offer sheet one has to also believe that Bowan Bryam turned down over 9 million bucks a year.

Ya that is not surprising. Conroy has never ever given any indication that he is interested in trading first round picks, doubt it started with presenting Bowan Byram with over 9 million dollars a year and being turned down.

Was he getting Miller for free?
He already traded a 2nd for a cap dump and Frost.
Conroy was probably told by Maloney and Edwards its time to spend picks.

Boomer did seem confident, but I'm less sold.
He was also stating it was being reported by others like Dreger...who never said offer sheet but said trade.
My guess is Pinder had it more correct where he was saying it was more the threat of the offer sheet and the overall trade discussion.
If Buffalo thought the Flames were actually going to give an offer sheet that potentially would have them giving up an unprotected first then I don't think they are taking Byram to arbitration lol...think they'd let that happen.

There is an enormous difference between the Flames 1st and the Vegas 1st, and then the 2nd round picks TBH.
The Vegas 1st for Miller or Byram is fine...the Flames 1st for Miller or Byram is crazy.
And in the end he didn't make either of these deals because it sounds like the price is too high...which means Conroy is showing some restraint.

It's a team driven arbitration session, is it possible that the agent leaked, "they were so close..." to try and drive up the price or shake something loose before that happens?
I am in the stay away from Byram camp, especially at that price, and especially ESPECIALLY if it involves losing high picks.
