Lol. What a ####ing dork.
https://stillrealtous.com/cm-punk-ap...-saudi-arabia/
Quote:
“This guy wants me to apologize for a mean tweet I wrote six years ago. Hey listen, it legitimately had nothing to do with Saudi Arabia. I woke up, I was crabby, I wrote a mean tweet to The Miz, and I apologized to The Miz,” Punk said.
CM Punk then asked the fan his name and he said it was Muhammad. Punk extended his hand, shook the fan’s hand and said, “Muhammad, I sincerely apologize to you and all of Saudi Arabia.”

I mean, I guess good for Punk for apologizing for something? That's new for him.
I am still hoping he does something to thumb his nose at these guys, but... yeah.

I think that everyone slamming CM Punk for being a hypocrite is kinda funny. Both because he is a total hypocrite and that is funny, and also everyone would gladly get slammed on the internet for being a hypocrite if that meant you got to make 50Million for a weekend of work, or whatever ungodly amount of money he will get paid.

I think everyone has moved on with Punk going to Saudi. He made amends and apologized to The Miz. What more is there to it? It sucks where the money is coming from, but you can almost be assured every sport will be taking place in Saudi/The Middle East at some point. Did people stop watching The World Cup in Quatar? Or all the UFC events being held there? The NFL is already looking to make a move and hold games there... The money on the table is too attractive to turn down. I bet Punk made more over a weekend than he did the rest of the year. The crowd loves him as well! Same as Sami Zayn, and there are very few professional wrestlers as altruistic as Sami.

What more is there to it? Dude pretends to be a huge ally to the queer community and then takes blood money from one of the most ruthless, anti-queer regimes in the world. The money on the table being "too attractive" is also kind of the point. He's a sellout.
He's also been on record as saying he would never do a Saudi show because of MBS.
You can still love CM Punk the character if you want to, but Phil Brooks the person is a fraud and a hypocrite.

EDIT: Also, for the record, if I do consume sportswashing events (F1, FIFA, IOC, etc.), it's always done via piracy so they don't get any of my $ for it.

Hyperbolic takes like this are counter-productive. Not just from a wrestling stand point but from a change and society stand point.

I am aware of the irony of Punk also being the kind of guy to go off half cocked, but what you're saying is very clearly hyperbolic to the point of just not being true.
It's counter-productive.

I'm struggling to see where what I'm saying isn't true. The Saudi regime has been notoriously brutal to queer people. If you want to quibble about my use of the word "pretends," then fine.
I kind of just follow the logic of "everyone is an ally until it's time to do ally ####." When you're only willing to take a stand for marginalized groups if it costs you nothing, it doesn't really come across as selfless to me.

Then throw the baby out with the bath water. He didn't do everything exactly how we think it should be done. He's not an ally, he's the enemy.
And then sit back and wonder why so many former allies aren't on our side anymore, why we have so many fewer voices speaking for our causes. Be confused why marginalized rights for so many any people across so many spectrums the world over are backsliding as we make rigid stands on every perceived slight.
Is he a hypocrite? Sure. I agree, you know I agree. Not an ally, turning his back on all his beliefs for doing his job and keeping his platform to keep talking? Give me a break. There are so many toxic view points in wrestling and you're ready crucify one of the loudest who speaks out against it on a regular basis flat the first chance.
This is why the left is so far behind all over the world. We eat out own over the smallest ####.

Good match though. Those two ladies did well. Nia Jax has improved substantially since her first run. Kudos to her for putting in the work.
Also with Roman playing Akuma in Street Fighter, don't expect him to be around for a long time. I think they should push Jacob Fatu hard ... He's already over, and could be elevated to Roman's spot in time. Whenever Roman does decide to return he should be Fatu over. Fatu is only 33! He has a good 10+ years in him. He's naturally over, and has been since night one.

I like Nya Jax alot, shes not that great in the ring but plays that personality really well. She can cut a decent promo and that division needs some Giants.
Fatu is great except on the mic, its too bad they cant pair him with the wise man

Smackdown was garbage as usual, but the Fraxium vs Andrade and Fenix match was insane.
I hope they get a rematch.
