Alberta threatens to exit ‘unsustainable’ subsidized child-care program
Quote:
The province estimates Ottawa’s proposed funding terms would leave it facing a $5-billion shortfall over the 2026 to 2031 funding period.
“[This leaves] Alberta to prop up an unsustainable and inflexible system that cannot meet the demands of our growing population,” Jones said in his emailed statement.
If Ottawa does not increase its funding, Alberta plans to stop participating in the subsidized child-care program after its agreement expires in March 2026.

Stop meddling in our business Ottawa but also, give us more money!
I for one, can't wait for childcare fees to go up from ~300 to $1k+ per month in 2026.

Of all the government expenditures to gripe about and threaten to cut, subsidized child care should be at the bottom of the list. It's so clearly a net benefit to society, it's something that should have been provided long ago.
sigh.

What do you need child care for if you've let them all die from measles?

You're supposed to have a trad wife to raise the children.
Radical leftists who think women should be allowed to work outside the home can pay for their own childcare!

All bluster for sure. That's way too many votes that would be too easy to "buy" for the NDP. IMO it would be a landslide election win for the ANDP if the UCP cuts this and ANDP campaigned on bringing it back.

This is how Canada was built.”
He continued: “The idea is that we have an obligation as a society to be reasonable about how we deliver services to all corners of the country, and that includes within our province.”

Sounds like he would be in favor of a system that equalized services for all....... Maybe some sort of equalization payment system?

Using terms like woke and DEI, Dan Williams said municipalities of every size and type should concentrate on services taxpayers deserve and expect.
“I want to make sure that Edmonton and Calgary are doing their jobs. There’s not a left-wing and a right-wing way to plow a road or deliver water or treat wastewater. These are just the obligations of municipalities,” he told The Macleod Gazette.
“But if they start veering into plastic straw bans and DEI policies and legalizing business licenses for brothels, then they’re way off base from the responsibility of a municipality,” said Williams, the member for Peace River and the former minister of mental health and addiction.
|
Uhm, waste management, non-descriminatory hiring practices, and businesses licenses are exactly what municipalities exist for, You ####ing dumbass dip####. What idiot thought you were qualified for this job?
Here's a hint, ####o. If you look south and see what they are doing and think that is somehow good for society, stick your head in a combine and save the rest of us from your stupidity.
This is what I mean when I say you give these mother####ers an inch. Next thing you know, you and/or your family are on the deportation list. Stop giving the worst of humanity anything, let alone power.

But it may surprise you to learn that no, no one cares. People consider it being sick, just like catching a cold, and they treat it similarly now.

That's a pretty baseless assumption; like so many things, it depends who you talk to.
If I have a cold, I don't go out and hang out with people.
The end. It's easy; I'm sick, I'm miserable and feel like ass and don't want to do anything.
Do you genuinely think I care if I'm sick with [random cold bug] or COVID? No, I don't give a sh-t: I'm sick, that's all the information I need to inform my behaviour.
I just don't see the value of constantly misery-spiraling over it either. It's here, it isn't going away, and people are going to live their lives.
Seriously, what's the desired outcome? Should we shut Stampede down because of measles and the slight uptick of viral genomes in the waterwater? I've been on IV-infused immunosuppressants since 2021, I got -- and keep getting -- my COVID shots so I can go enjoy my life, I'm not putting it on hold because of the amount of COVID in the waterwater went up.
