It would be great if we picked 1 and 2!

Logically, then, if you don't run it even once, the Flames should move up 15 times.

Pronman is weirdly low on McKenna. Doesn't consider him to be a Celebrini/Bedard level prospect.
Weird.

Great news! Maybe Gavin will fall to our 15th overall draft selection in 2026.

I wish I could read the article to see why he thinks this. The kid is incredible. Won the CHL player of the year during a season in which he was still 16 for the first half of it. Put up over 2 points per game as a 16 year old. And by that I mean he turned 16 mid season and immediately began producing over 2 points per game, then did the same the next season until turning 17. Then he found yet another gear afte that.
But I guess a questionable opinion will get more attention which is part of the game for a sports writer.

Big loss for the WHL. But this is the best way to go for him, he's already miles ahead skill wise, and now he has a chance to bulk up since he will be playing less games.

Not taking a side, but didn't Nolan Patrick do all those things once upon a time?

Umm, no? Born September 1998. Looks to be more like 1.0 pts/game and 1.4 pts/game. Not earthshattering stuff.
2014-15 Brandon Wheat Kings WHL 55 30 26 56
2015-16 Brandon Wheat Kings WHL 72 41 61 102

Not even remotely close. Patrick's best season was 102 points in 72 games. McKenna just dropped 129 in 56. Both D-1. In Patrick's draft year he had 46 in 33 games. If McKenna somehow drops to that he won't even go top-5.

quoting Pronman on McKenna
Quote:
The top-ranked prospect is Gavin McKenna, who some may recognize from this year’s Canadian World Junior team. He’s a standard/solid No. 1 pick and is analogous to Matthew Schaefer as a prospect.
McKenna was one of the very best players in the CHL this season. He’s an electric forward with truly elite skill and offensive sense. He’s one of the most creative and skilled players I’ve seen in recent years. That McKenna is also a high-end skater who can make his difficult plays at quick tempos gives a lot of confidence about how his game could fare in the NHL. If teams were going to pick him apart, it would be that he’s an average-sized winger who doesn’t have a super high motor, but his talent and scoring are so good that it’s nitpicking. I wouldn’t call him a Macklin Celebrini/Connor Bedard level prospect, but he’s not far off.

Haha. As others pointed out, not even close. McKenna produced better than Patrick during his rookie season when he was 15/16 years old.
Plus that poor kid couldn't stay healthy.

That's the only reason I can think of that someone could have that opinion.. McKenna is just a wizard on the ice. Really incredible.
