I don't think so. I think the Blues have cooled on Byram.

What "group of veterans" have been with the Flames for 10 years?
Backlund...is the only one on the 2014-15 roster.
Backlund and Andersson are the only ones on the 2020-21 roster.
If you move all the way to 2022-23 you get a few more: Backs, Ras, Kadri, Huberdeau, Coleman, Weegar. So, actually, Conny showed "loyalty" to a group from ... three years.
You can't make this stuff up. Or you can, and hope that nobody checks?

Many of those with needs will remain in need because there are finite assets left. If someone gets byram they can drop off the list but the others remain. Plus, come playoff time, teams with limited cap space but playoff assurances will show up. Tampa, Florida, Edmonton, Colorado and likely the Jets to name a few.

Flames don't feel any urgency in trading away Rasmus or acquiring Byram. This applies across their whole roster. They're more than happy to ride out the summer and head into the season. So I think for rumors and activity, this summer may be brutal for the fanbase anticipating moves.

Thanks for sharing on this, do you know anything about Conroy's offer or what Adams is asking for?

I believe it to be Zary and CC not wanting to include him.

That lines up with the rumours around the Cozens trade too. They wanted Zary then and Conroy wouldn't go for it.
Between Cozens and Byram, I would have been more willing to part with Zary for Cozens. LD isn't a big enough of a need to justify adding Zary, IMO.

Good. I would not trade Zary straight up for Byram.

|
Yeah, the Flames did that with Tkachuk and a deal was done within a couple of days. I suspect the same will happen here. If Buffalo was worried about an offer sheet, it takes that leverage off the table for the player.
Although, if Byram wants to go to a new team, he'd be unlikely to sign an offer sheet anyway because Buffalo could have matched and he'd be stuck there for as long as his contract lasted.
Also, if he wants an 8 year deal, it will need to be a sign and trade like Tkachuk was too.

Craig could have had Cozens for Zary.
Chose not to.
No way he gives up Zary for Byram now.

Showed loyalty to a group of veterans that haven't made the playoffs for 3 straight seasons and are declining.
But yes you got me only backlund and andersson have been in the flames system for 10+ years.
You win you are right.

Yes. Conroy is very high on Zary. Feels there is a lot of potential and levels that he can get to.....which has been a contributing factor to why a contract has not yet been signed.

Who, exactly, has Conroy shown loyalty to, except by re-signing Backlund? He's traded the majority of those veterans already, Andersson is on the trading block, Kadri has an NMC, Coleman a 10-team trade list, Huberdeau an untradeable contract. Were you expecting him to say ‘neener neener neener’ on their way out the door, or what?

Sorry, why is that?
Do you mean Conroy wants a much longer contract but Zary camp not willing?

It makes sense. The Flames would want to sign Zary to term based on performance to this point, and a little bit of upside.
Zary will feel like he hasn't shown what he can really do yet, and therefore will want to go short with a bridge which gives him a chance to break out and really cash in.
They probably settle on 2 or 3 years.

Glad Conroy holds Zary in such high regard, hope they start using him down the middle this season.

Smart, I think it would be a huge mistake to trade him. I see the same upside.

Yep, time for a veteran to take a back seat. Young guys need to be developed where they belong.

Next 2 seasons are important for zary. He needs to stay healthy and show consistent offensive production. 40 plus points this upcoming season and 50+ points second season.
