Team needs the second coming of Regehr. What a player.

If Hague wouldn't re-sign here, as reported, then his value is pretty close to negative for the Flames in particular. It's not that the ship has sailed, it never even stopped in port.

Quite a lot like the Flames, in fact (as to the age curve, not the quality of the team).

You need at least a few big heavy D on the backend, we have Bahl now but he doesn’t play as heavy as he could, but a huge fan.
I just don’t think it’s the time to add them

I have faith we have a LD in the system that can take the 2nd pair role and run with it next year. Hoping so anyway.

Bahl - Weegar as top pair. Parekh as #2 RD. Brzustewicz as #3 RD.

Solvoyov
Grushnikov
Kuznetsov

Lets see what they have as #2 and #3 RD before bringing in someone else. Plus we still have Hanley and Pachal, with Bean and Miromanov as warm bodies for the Wranglers and injury call-ups.

If Parekh is #2 RD, I think you have to start him out with Hanley, as the most experienced defensive D on the roster. He'll need a safety net while he learns to defend against NHL opponents. (Hanley–Weegar and Bahl–Parekh is another possibility, though that leaves the top pair weaker.) Brzustewicz is liable to be a year away still, just because there's kind of a logjam of young D and he is one of the youngest.

Probably. So, alternatively, what NHL prospects are projected Tto be the next Regehr?

Crushnikov was great in last years preseason. He just needed to work on coverage.
He seems like kind of an afterthought to most people now.

Doesn't seem to be a fit.

Flames top forward prospects are already heavy in LW or potential LWs if they aren't C in the NHL.

Also he is UFA if he doesn't sign by August 15, 2026. American college UFA probably doesn't have Calgary high on his list.

Well yeah, if he wasn't willing to re-sign here, then screw him.

I was just talking about his value in general.

Agreed. I think some posters were talking past each other – Hague's value in general, vs. his value as a trade chip in exchange for Andersson.

Mace'o Phillips one day, if all works out- although he'll never be as good at moving the puck or supporting the offense as Reggie was.

Regehr just made playing defence look easy. Tough as nails and would make players pay. I miss that about Calgary's identity. He was old time hockey.

I know Parekh had a historic season in the OHL and looked fantastic in his 1 NHL game. I also know its either the CHL or NHL next season, and he has nothing left to prove in the CHL. But the kid is going to be 19 to start next season.

Do we have any recent examples of D breaking into the NHL as as a teenager? Owen Powers did it as the 1 OA. Korchinksi did in his first season, but bounced between the AHL and NHL last season. It happens, but its really rare. Even rarer where it turns out for the better.

I don't think its as much of a certainty as some suggest that Parekh is in the NHL next season. Another season in the OHL isn't going to hurt him. Burning a year and rushing him to the NHL might.

Byram made the jump right from junior as a 19 year old. It's arguable whether that was the best thing for him or not.

This is why I hate the whole AHL/CHL agreement. It doesn't take into consideration what's best for the player. Another year in the OHL probably won't hurt him, but going back to that level of competition probably doesn't help either. Rushing players to the NHL can be detrimental and the risk isn't worth burning a contract year. If you need to burn the year, it would be nice to have the AHL as an option for development purposes.

i expect that he will get 9 games in the NHL, then Conroy will have a hard decision to make.

I get the trepidation around rushing Parekh too soon to the NHL - we certainly don’t want to potentially ruin the best prospect we’ve had since Tkachuk.

But I also think people are severely underestimating him and his resiliency. This is a wicked smart kid that graduated high school at 15 - that’s unheard of for a hockey prospect. He’s very self-motivated and evidently a quick learner. I don’t think keeping him here all year - if he earns it - is going to be anything but good for him, even if he struggles at times.

Now, if shows up like he did last camp (which I seriously doubt) or he’s clearly in over his head after 9 games, then yeah send him back. But I would bet money that neither of those happen.

I believe Zayne will remain in the NHL for the whole year, however there may be games he eats popcorn to analyze and view play as a learning.

Agreed. Some nights it could be Weegar-Parekh / Hanley-Pachal, other nights he sits and Hanley moves up to play with Weegar and Bean comes in to play with Pachal.

Some of you are really sleeping on Parekh this year.
The kid has put so much work into being ready for a full season with the big club.
Weegar has taken him under his wing to ensure he's ready both physically and mentally.

I'm looking forward to what he brings this year.
