I'm watching 'Encounters at the End of the World' at the moment.

I do enjoy me some Herzog. He is like a brilliant ray of optimistic sunshine about everything, its fantastic!

His docs tend to be slow and methodical though, so this one is him in Antarctica.

The rock slide at Bow Glacier Falls reminded me of the documentary "The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari".

So good! I thought I’d seen and read everything about this movie, including the excellent 2 hour doc that was included on the original bluray release. But there’s lots of great new archival footage, photos, and fun anecdotes from various filmmakers and artists discussing the film’s impact and legacy. I especially liked the behind the scenes stuff with Robert Shaw.

Interestingly enough, I just watched the two-part HBO documentary:

It was interesting, now...I'm not someone who watched the Pee-Wee show, it wasn't really my bag but theres no doubt that he had a hard and interesting life.

I watched the documentary about the Lac-Mégantic tragedy. There was, and still is, so much corruption on every level.

Yeah, I watched that too. I feel bad, really. Of the people that had their reputations ruined, I think Paul Reubens and Sinead O’Connor were in the top 2 for being the most unfair.

I think that would be an accurate statement.

I guess for me, because the show really wasn't for me I didn't really ever think anything of it, went along with the Pee-Wee jokes and just kind of shrugged it off because I didnt care.

Its difficult to understand how things like that really affect some people, not just Reubens himself, but his fans and family and friends.

And the allegations against him during the trials he had to go through? I never realized that most of them were either dropped, found to have been false or were so minor as to be laughable.

But some people just wanted to drag him through the mud.

I remember at one point in the documentary, and I was really young when these events happened so I didnt grasp all of the minutiae but:

"He was caught masturbating in a Porn theater!!!"

Uh...sir...what were you there for? The plot?

But they made damaging allegations and then disappeared into the hedges like Homer and when the Court had to do something they couldnt prove anything and Reubens ended up paying like $50. It was nothing.

Well if you like podcasts, you’ll love documentaries. It’s like a podcast but with moving pictures added to the sound.

I'm still trying to figure out what Sinead O'Connor did that was wrong.

She didn’t do anything wrong really. The backlash from calling out the Pope and Catholicism at that time garnered so much underserved hate for her. I’d like to see everyone who dished that out asked in an interview if they would have taken all that back and apologized if they could. I didn’t see any kind of retrospective after she died about it. The church did such s good job hiding all of that, not a lot of people who were unaffected knew but there’s no excuses now.

Reubens is one of the few famous people I’d be interested in knowing.

The ones I did know, for the most part, ended up being just what my intuition told me they were.

Yeah, that'd be interesting for sure.

Back then? "Nothing to see here! Move along!"

And she called them out on it which, they dont like much.

But now? "Okay, okay, *hands up* mistakes may have been made!"

But they tarred and feathered her for it.

Too bad Joe Pesci didn't get smacked.
