The lack of activity every year is funny. League is capped out hard to make a move. Tons of cap space we have no one to spend on.

If the league expands to 36 teams, free agency might get even more interesting in terms of exhausted talent pools.

After initial free agency, there's always a lack of activity each year because people actually go on vacation.

Can't argue this. The off season is a short one.

Just overall the draft was boring and free agents all signed. This time of year is boring and that’s fine.
Just feels like every year we hear it’s going to be different only to hear pick 22 traded for pick 25 and 44. Yawn.

Yes, escrow works both ways - if total salaries are less than 50% of HRR, then everyone gets a bump. However, don't expect total salaries to be less than 50% any time soon.

Google says HRR for 2025 was ~ 6.2B
That would mean each team had to spend ~96 million on player salaries
Now I know (think) some is still going to pay back Covid times , but next year quick math shows that players won’t be paid 50% of HRR as of salaries today across the league even on a 5% HRR increase (and its increasing faster) …..
What am I missing ?

I can't speak to the numbers, I simply explained how escrow works. Also, I am not going to base a discussion off of what a google search for HRR revenues comes up with.

Friedman on 32 thoughts podcast:
thinks the Flames have low key taken some bigger swings than what we have realized yet. especially on defense
don't think it is accurate that Andersson will play for 1 team but it is limited
short list at this point in time, more than 1 but not like 10
if Flames trade him at deadline, Andersson will go to good team where he can showcase himself for next contract
wouldn't be surprised if one of the teams Andersson could go to for example would be Florida, but the Panthers can't make that deal
Conroy was sneakily trying to do some big things that didn't come to fruition
wouldn't be surprised if they are poking around Byram
heard they were around a lot of the D that hit the market but they had a limit
There have been so many fake quotes about Kadri attributed to Friedman.
Friedman had to tell teams they might get calls about Kadri but he never said anything about it
Unless Kadri asks to move or the Flames get an offer that blows their socks off - Flames are not in a hurry to move him

I think it can be salvaged. Best case is Lindholm, where everyone knows he is available, and one team wants to get in front of it. Ras is a rental, full stop. If the worst case is Hanifin and best case is Lindholm, I can live with that.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Lots of talk about ras no trade list. Supposedly Ottawa and LA are on it. But how does this get verified or is this confidential between the player and the team? I know the list has to be submitted every year but would be good to know as a snoopy fan so you can postulate on potential fits and eliminate teams that are on the list. Don’t see why this would need to be confidential as it always comes out in the wash.

I think that it varies based on contract. There are common terms but it is not universal. Some players can submit a new list when asked by the team. Some are submitted each year on a specific date.

If the Flames retain 50%, Razzy at $2.275M should be very valuable to a team now. Take a contending team's overpaid and unnecessary vet back to make it even easier and get a 1st and good prospect back.

Not sure how to feel on the big swings comment. Big swings on the cheap then sure but doubt that would percolate up the rumours. Sure doesn’t seem like it’s the time to add to this team…

I'm fine with taking big swings if he can leverage his current assets (without moving the 2026 1st) for a young player to add to the core (Byram, McTavish, etc.)

Only really makes sense to me for a guy like McTavish. I’m not super sold on Byram, Hague, and Miller for where the team is at currently.
