$8Mx8 + $3Mx1 at 37 years old
$10M x 6yrs + $6Mx3 at 35 years old

In theory both paths gets him to 38 but he would need a GM to go crazy and throw massive contracts at him because "the cap is going up". He would also need to maintain his play and health enough to get another significant contract at 35. The safer route would be to get the 8 year extension as soon as possible.

Or maybe he values the flexibility of playing for the right team(s) more than an additional more money than he could ever spend.

I really like this if it's allowed.

The comment from Conroy was always interesting. He wants to have a better year so he gets a better contract.

He’s going to cost himself term and money I think.

Maybe if he put in a better (consistent ) effort last year he’d be getting the contract offer he wanted but after getting selected for the four nations tourney he reverted back to just ok mode. Very talented guy who always leave you wanting more of what we know he can do.

Really is pretty low risk for contending teams. You get him for 3/4 of a season and if you want to keep him for the playoffs, you do, and if you're not in the race or you want to recoup assets, you would likely get a good chunk back.

If he has another year like he did last year he wouldn't even get $5mil/per.

Risky stuff.

I dont really get the appeal of holding otuto UFA, when you can pick or choose where you want to go and are already going to get a big deal.

Like a list of LA, Dallas, Vegas, Tampa, Florida and whoever else. They'll pay him a fair 8x8 or whatever guranteed right now. What's the advantage of holding out? If he has a bad year he's going to cost himself ALOT of money and potentionally end up in a worse location

Hes never going to have more leverage then he does now.

I like how much he dislikes the Oilers and for trolling Tom Wilson. I would miss that.

Yup, especially in the summer. Fights start up over the silliest claims.

There we go, this sounds a lot more like what’s going on and is a reasonable position for Andersson to take. Makes sense, good for him.

So does that mean we stop panicking now? Please someone tell me how to feel

It just means everyone gets to bring up their biggest complaint about the Flames again.

Take your pick of rehashed gripes: Monahan trade, Hamonic trade, Hanifin trade, specific draft pick selections, your least favourite coaching hire, not trading a player early to maximize their value... open bingo space of your choosing. Fun for all!

The Flames should get rid of Andersson, Huberdeau, Coleman, and Kadri. Not as salary dumps but to take advantage of the cap space that contending teams seem to still have. With that we can finally be bad enough to be in the running for Gavin McKenna instead of yet another wasted year of being two points out of a playoff spot

There is only panic. Nothing else. Never anything else.

They will but Andersson wants to go to a present contender. They are 5 years away.

Mukhamadullin-Liljegren
Dickinson-Thompson
X: Leddy, Klingberg

Out: Ferraro, Desharnais, Thrun

And their Goaltending situation is massively upgraded over Georgiev:
Askarov
Nedeljkovic

But without that #1RD upgrade they are basically running Liljegren or Klingberg as the top pair RD which is not going to go well.
There's a lot of ifs and hopes in that defence. Liljegren is terrible - ask Leaf fans. Muhkmadhulin is a huge question mark to me. He hasn't proven a thing. Which also applies to your bottom pairing and Askarov.

Now, I seriously doubt whether Andersson has them on his NTC list, so if they are willing to trade for him and hope to convince him to extend, great. They have assets the Flames would love, and they look to be trending towards some logjams up front.

5 years from contention? Or playoffs.

I think they are closer. Think of the Hawks who won right away after getting Kane and Toews.

It could also go sideways no doubt but I think the Sharks have a better management structure and ownership unlike Buffalo.

Well, the Hawks had prime aged veterans like Keith, Seabrook, Hossa, Sharp, Campbell, Sopel, Madden, Kopecky, and a super deep corps of guys like Versteeg, Ladd, Brouwer, Versteeg, Bolland, Byfuglien that they had already built up.

SJ has nowhere near that team. And won't for several more years.

That's actually good news.

Takes the market back up to 25 teams and is no trade 6.
