Yeah I understand why he does it
I just didn’t agree with your statement that he had a lot of interest and potential left.

If you are wondering why the Lightning signed him.
This is why.
The kid is pretty good and was a loss for the Flames.

He is 5'9" and spent much of his D+6 season in the A. Calling him pretty good is a stretch. Saying the Flames made a mistake (after turning him into Farabee) is just wrong.

Pelletier himself doesn’t see himself much better than replacement value or else he doesn’t sign for 3 years at league minimum. Maybe he somehow blows up from here but “pretty good” definitely hasn’t been proven yet.
Paul Byron, just not as good IMO.

Immediately after leaving the Flames....like on the way to the airport. (According to The Hockey News and the Athletic....probably)

AI Overview
NHL player agent fees typically range from 3-5% of the player's salary, according to Hockey Skills Training, The Hockey News, and Anders CPA. This commission is calculated after escrow payments, which are a percentage of the player's compensation held back by the league

I think he will be an NHL'er. He was getting rave reviews as a PK'er, and he was finding his groove here before the trade.
What he is not is a top 6 player, and he doesn't help with getting bigger as a team. However, he is glue-guy and that is usually overlooked, plus he is a solid 2-way forward. I bet he carves-out a decent career for himself as a middle-six player with intangibles.

He could be a top six. In terms of line fit, I actually can see Cooper putting him on Anthony Cirelli's line, which would be Tampa's second line.

Pelletier was a feel good story for what seems like a really likeable dude. He was unable to lock down a spot on multiple flames teams with weak forwards groups. He’s 24 years old now and likely has little untapped potential to the point that the best offer on the table was the lowest possible NHL paycheque locked in for 3 years.
This was not a big loss for anyone, he just didn’t meet expectations. It happens.

Pelletier passed through waivers last season, then wasn't given a QO, and signed a contract with most team friendly terms possible.
I don't think THN knows something that 32 other teams haven't figured out. There are things to like about his game, and the contract he got justifies that at this point, it's a shot in the dark.
