I'm okay with this. Based on his numbers that he is more defensively minded on the ice maybe he becomes Backlunds replacement as the "Leagues best 3rd line center".
Kinda following the same trajectory too. If I recall Backlund didn't put up big offensive numbers in his first 5 seasons and the Flames signed him to low AAV contracts around 2-3 years.
Could become a rock on the PK and good support for up and coming prospects.
We’re getting a first for a guy that puts up 15 goals a year? And a prospect?
When I look at Frost's JFresh card, this bit leaps to the eye:
EV Defence 96%
A good shutdown centre is worth a lot to a contender, even if he isn't producing much offensively. If he can keep up that performance through this contract, a late first + something from a contending team doesn't seem implausible to me.

Frost doesn't have the greatest of shots, but he appears more gifted with his hands than Backlund is or ever was.

I can accept that rational, I think it's more likely his value would come from what you've pointed out rather than him smashing previous point totals, but if he does both, fantastic.

Frost showed he had a lot of talent moving the puck and I think there is a lot more offence potentially. I think he needs to be a better distributor and avoid the turnovers at the blueline which are absolute killers. This 2 year deal is perfect for both parties, as it isn't that clear what he will be.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

A two year contract means he should be traded immediately. At least to some people here.
No, not really. I think those people want to see players who were signed to long term deals (5 years or so) traded when those deal is down to 2 years remaining, the team is rebuilding, and the player is now approaching 30 years old and is probably at peak value, where waiting is probably only going to see that players value drop.
Hanifin and Rasmus are both prime examples.
Doesn't apply in this scenario.
I could see Frost traded at the TDL, or next summer though if the situation calls for it.

Or resigned to a 5-7 year deal as he'll have just turned 28, and the team would still have him for most of his prime years, plus in the beginning of their competitive window.

I don't think anything you've said here applies to anything I said.

I was being sarcastic but really, if we are tradng a guy on a five year deal after only three years it seems weird to me. There's a lot of hindsight. Flames were heading into the season with a rookie goalie and a backup, with only two veteran defencemen. Who knows what Wolf's season would be like if they went with just Weegar and a pile of young guys and cast offs.

Don't think he's bringing back much in trade unless he is able to inflate his numbers on a weak roster. If that happens though it's probably more likely he becomes another Sharangovich.
