I like how a lot of Oilers fans are lauding this, means it him or Philp on the roster, he can just be the 13th forward, etc.
I must be missing something, because as it stands right now, both he and Philp are on the roster. As regulars. They have no one else for the spots?
I think the hope is that David Tomasek will be a regular on the team. They signed him to a 1 year-1 way contract for $1.2 million and will be a UFA at the end of the year. I don't think you give a player that kind of deal if you think they will be playing in the minors.
It's funny though because he is 29 and has no NHL experience, although his numbers in Europe are pretty good. He is waivers exempt, so can be sent down, but I don't think that was the intention when they signed him.

Senators got as much for Lazar as the Flames received for Sam Bennett. That was probably as much evidence as anyone should have needed that it was time to change the approach in hockey ops.

Stauffer reporting he had offers in excess of $3.0 million, probably.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Next up stan the mam announces he has signed Connor McDavid to a record new deal that the NHL has never seen before a 30 year deal at $75 million a season apparently a lil birds told him the cap is going up in the next couple of years so we can afford it. 😆 🤣 😂 😹

That is Stauffer's Schtick!!! Find out what the Oilers signed him for and immediately say that he had offers of a million to two million more from other team but he chose the Oilers. Whatever helps you sleep at night, Bob!!!

Bahahahahaha. Now they are taking on Flames rejects from almost a decade ago.
Who's next on their quest to beef up for their next cup? Maybe they can coax away Hnat Domenichelli and Retto Berra from their duties with the Spengler Cup?
Also I guess 29 and 30 year old Mangiapane and Lazar technically make the Oilers younger at this point.

as you point out , technically younger. correct. currently they have about 150 K of cap space if they roll with 14 Fs, or they will have about 1M if they roll with 13
I would say Podkolzin and 8 year man Frederic are locks- but otherwise no matter which version of the roster you settle with it would include at most 1-2 more of Philp, Jones or Savoie- in other words there is likely to be 3 and maybe 4 Fs younger that McDavid on the roster- 3 of these guys will be 27 this year - baby steps is right

They got rid of some of the wrong old guys. Perry and Kane played pretty important roles for them in the playoffs. Their 5th and 6th highest scoring players from the playoffs are gone. Mangiapane could recover to previous playoff form and become a .5 PPG player, but he's certainly not an improvement.
