I don't think adding a winger will have the impact they think. I also think they will likely lose Stone for a good chunk of the season, who is far more valuable than Marner, or he will be a shell of himself, and they also lost Pietrangelo. Eichel had a career year, I think he reverts to PPG which he's been his entire career. And the rest of their core is old and getting older. Hertl, Karlsson are 30+. They may have bet on the wrong goalie.

I can't see how Vegas isn't better by adding a 90-100 point player to their roster. I think the Leafs will miss him more than he will miss the Leafs. Sure injuries could derail their season but they are still pretty deep.

Speaking of money, BFF Stan signed the only player who falls down without contact more than me! I spoke with “Andrew” on the phone. He phoned me! The nerve of some people. He said that he was looking forward to seeing some power play time but I set him straight on that. I told him that as a conn smythe winner, I only don’t play in the last 5 1/2 minutes of the deciding game. He mentioned something about there isn’t “any I in team” but I don’t know what school he went to because (and I told him straight up) that there was “me” in team and that was all that “I” needed. Also note to file: I wonder when Gary B and the nhl will be scheduling the drop off and photos of the conn smythe? I can’t be the only person in history that doesn’t have pics of himself with it.

Stan also said that he got me a laser for free agents day. I said great but didn’t mean it because I already have a great shot. He said no he signed Curtis laser and I think it’s disrespectful to me to have your name and nickname together. Honestly, should my name be Connor the best player in the world who makes the second most money, or Leon makes the most money but second best player in the world? See what I mean? His name is probably bob smith but Curtis laser for the fans. No one minds a little showmanship but come on; I’ll ask Leon to give him a welcome to oilers skate to skate kick.

Well diary I have to get back to my painting; someone stupidly dropped off red roses (I think it’s more Katzie red roses shenanigans) and I have to remove the colour. It’s almost too much choice to decide to make them black or white, but they have to blend into my house’s colour scheme. Painted them black btw.

I don’t think I’ll sign today; good buddies Mitch and Austin are taking me to the ice capades in Vegas! I know right! Clever idea for Mitch to get us season passes for that.

Mavi Diary - Day 3

Well Diary you are going to have to be prepared to dig in today…and I mean right now because I’m literally writing to you. Yeah. It’s time to show one of my three emotions. It’s disgust. (my other two diary for your reference are meh and over celebrating).

I’m disgusted by all of these Calgary Flames joining my quest. Andrew, and Curtis (I guess Lazar is his real last name and not his nickname…which if we add a “y” as normal would be “lazy” and I can’t stand people being lazy because there’s only room on this team for Leon and I to get on ice rest periods which isn’t lazy by the way) and even the son of the player who was traded for the flames GM once upon a time. I just said that I liked their uniforms (the black or white ones because the red is the same colour as ketchup and that scares me) and I didn’t mean that we had to go and acquire the set! So I’m mad about that.

Andrew texted me for clarity on his role and I told him that I play left, right and centre areas of the ice. I’m the captain and coach knobby says I drive the bus so here we are. Andrew said what about ends of the rink and I told him that I didn’t know what he was talking about. There’s only one end and I point my skates at it and that’s that. I did acknowledge that I have spoken to the goalies by accident in the dressing room but mostly I just stare at them from the bench when I have to look at them. I restrict my emotions to 2 when I look at them. Meh and disgust. Not once, not even once, have they come down to celebrate me or Leon’s goals or assists. Not once. They don’t even come to the bench to celebrate. So I don’t ever let them see my over celebration emotions. I mean why would I share? Do they pass it to me? So they don’t even help me win stuff. I told coach knobby that we should play without goalies for awhile to test it out and we scored lots of goals like that.

Look diary, even Lenard the dog got closer to my 1,000 point celebrations than any “goalie”. I’m also a bit mad at Lenard because he immediately grabbed the stick when I had it, and he knows that’s MY thing to grab someone else’s stick when they are using it.

I also heard that stupid Calgary got two new hotels and they are getting a new rink. Katzie promised that oilers would have the best but it looks like he broke the rose ceremony covenant that we made.

Just for that, I’m mad and not signing anything today. Not autographs or contracts.

Okay diary. I’m all out of primary emotions. I’m going to work on my new one because I think I have to grow. Can you guess what it is? No, not “blue steel” you big silly. It’s moping. I’m telling myself it’s a cross between meh and disgust. It’s tough to pull off, let me tell you. I just think about that time that Leon didn’t pass to me when I was open. It should be useful!

The Knights have lost Pietrangelo permanently, and they are over the cap even with him on LTIR. It's not all gains for them.

Stone was the reason Vegas beat the Oilers three years ago. This year he was nowhere near up to the task. Where Stone goes, the Knights go IMO. And who knows how Marner fits in to a physical/defensive team like Vegas has become. Flames added a 115 point player once.

Mavi Diary - Day 4

Dear Diary. Well, it got a little bit heated with the GM. I’m not sure if I really like this new one that Katzie brought in. Here’s what happened.

I got a call from a nice guy who told me that we could get into any BP that I wanted, no matter where or when. I didn’t believe him. So Brad and I met at a BP near my cactus club home, and sure enough, we walked right in! It was great!

He told me that I could have anything on the menu, and they would make sure that no ketchup was used! That made me feel special. Brad and I talked for a long time about the leafs and Austin and stuff. He told me that I could play for the leafs as soon as a year from now! I asked about money and PP time and could my stall be beside Austin, and he said sure! Everything was yes! I asked about restaurant stuff, and I told him that I was mad because McDonald’s named restaurants after me (McDavid’s!) but when I went back two days later they were McDonald’s again. Brad said that he would even put a permanent pizza on the menu just for me and my fans, not some special 2 week promotion.

I was amazed by all of this and he said that he could do it because of his dad. I’m onboard with Dads helping out! Would Zach even be a hockey player if his dad didn’t keep buying teams and leagues? My own private medical staff was setup by my dad…so yes to dads! If Brad’s dad can get me a special pizza on the menu, sign me up!

I told Mr. Bowman (yes it’s formal now) how great the dinner with Brad was, and he started yelling and screaming about “tampering” and contracts and nhl and my pal Gary B.

I told Mr. Bowman that there was no tampering whatsoever with my pizza or dinner; it was exactly what I wanted. I’m particular about things; I didn’t sign a BP contract, Gary B was busy and couldn’t attend, and no one tampered with my pizza (crust, cheese, and mushrooms because tomato sauce is too close to ketchup which I’m afraid of) and my diet water. So there was no tampering!

He said that he would have to cover this up but he said that he had experience with that so it wasn’t an issue. I just don’t get what is wrong with having dinner with Brad and talking about hockey. He made me promise not to do it again but I had my fingers crossed to prevent promise breaking voodoo from happening.

Brad said not to worry as I could get my very own leafs jersey in less than a year! Mr. Bowman said “never” but I said 360 sleeps! Mr. Bowman was mad and said that he was going to get on things.

So diary, we will see who stops by tomorrow!

Day 5

Good Morning Diary! Hopefully your morning has gone better than mine.

I went to get my coffee in my Connor McDavid branded 97 jammies (in black and white so I’m not frightened in the night by colour) and the good news is that coffee was already made and there was a 97 pack of timbits on the counter! They were the sugar dipped ones to avoid the risk of red or taste! Very thoughtful. That’s where the good ended though.

It was Ron Maclean and the Sportsnet camera crew setup and ready to go. No one knew why they were there. Only a call to Katzie explained it; I guess he gave Sportsnet a key to my faux cactus club house in exchange for no coverage of the Oilers 50/50. I don’t know what that means except I told Lauren to make sure that she didn’t ask Ron to stay over. Last time he stayed over he took his shirt off and flicked the lights on and off and said that he had Saturday Night Fever and had to dance it off. I’ve never had Saturday night fever but I’m going to get that added to my list of excuses when I don’t want to play.

Ron’s new show “non stop Connor” seems like a great idea and show, but I can’t really see any difference from the coverage from Ron today. It feels exactly the same; Connor this, and Connor that…. I mean that is exactly what I like, and Ron told me that was what he liked, and also what Roger’s and Sportsnet liked, so on principle it’s good. Speaking of principe (see what I did there diary? 4D chess whatever that means but I think it means doing something no one else can figure out) I hope he starts wearing shoes because those feet are nasty.

Where was I…oh yeah Ron. Well to be honest I’m not sure how it went. This is what I remember:

Ron started off by telling me that he knew that jack eichel and I were almost teammates at Boston College, and I was an exception in the ohl draft…and did I also know that there was talk about exceptions in franchises too? Like Toronto almost had 2 teams but Montreal actually did and they even had a third team once but the canadiens and Maroons played and the maroons won 2 cups which Ron wanted to savour with me when in 4-6 years it was a glass of beer and Gretzky and messier and sather’s granny knitted shirts which she donated to cabbagetown studios where the cbc worked when Dave hodge tossed his pencil in the air…

Well he definitely said all that stuff but I drifted off to sleep and I think the crew did too and then eventually Ron talked himself to sleep. Lauren woke me up to polish my awards and everyone was asleep. Ron was too but he was still talking so I guess he bored himself out!

I’m writing this to you from the backseat of my car. I might have to sleep here tonight because I don’t think I can get past Ron and more stories.

Wasn't this the promise they gave to any and every forward they tried to sign, a chance to play on McDiver's wing? And how many of those actually played on McDiver's wing all season long? They might get a shift or two, may be?

It does make sense unfortunately. The Oilers lack depth and if there was a team in the NHL where he could walk on and get the best chance to play with top line players like that, it's the Oilers.
