Fortunately Conroy had a front row seat to the last time the Flames traded an unprotected 1st so he should be more aware than anyone of the risks involved in premature bets.
I doubt he’s willing to part with either ‘26 pick.

I think teams are threatening offer sheets is because they are offering 1sts and the team is wanting players.
Rangers probably wanted players for Miller and same for Buffalo, offers are 1sts and they aren't budging so the threat of offer sheet to get the player for the picks and keep their players.

I think either team would be crazy to use their 2026 first in an offer sheet for Byram. Both teams barely got in/missed the playoffs last year on the back of similarly crazy finishes down the stretch. Very easily could be a lottery pick and if I'm BUF, would not be matching with either team.

I like Byram a lot, more than maybe most in this thread. If Flames gave the Sabres their final offer and the Blues top it no reason to go in a bidding war with them. Happy to have the player at the right price but he is not a guy you overpay for. I still think there is a lot going on behind the scene and at some point over the next 2-4 weeks the dam will break and the trades will flow

Oh 100%, the threat is one thing but if we actually were to make the offer, Buffalo now gets to choose if they want our pick or not.

Did Makar get along with him / were they ever a pairing?

I think occasionally but Makar is usually paired with Toews and Byram was paired with Johnson during their cup run. I do remember there being shifts where Byram played with Makar in the playoffs. I think Byram primarily was paired with E.J or Girard during his time with the Avs.

The Sabres will match any offer sheet and then trade him in a year. They want prospects and players, not picks. That's what I am hearing.

Duh, yeah, I should have known / remembered that.
Can we just slightly tamper and let Makar know there is a 15m contract waiting for him at the end of this year?

Its been reported that Buffalo wants players. Thats why they got the light packet for JJ.
Need to stay patient and fleece Adams like many have.

Draft Pick

I wonder if those in the media speculating offer-sheet are just throwing it out there because the Blues used it successfully twice last year. It's not an overly common occurrence, but Armstrong has shown a willingness to do it in the past, so it's easy clicks for the talking heads to throw that out there.

Does anyone wonder if CC is actually doing exactly what he said he's wanted to do since becoming GM?
He wanted these kids to get looks , to be patient, to let them develop and he's doing that.
Meanwhile most are impatient. Now now now make this team better, entertain me !!
I'm one of the few waiting to see what we have from the hard work of scouts , management, minor league coaches, billets, trainers, former players etc
The work others put into ALL of this . The work behind the scenes to build an NHL team has to be exhausting
Add to this what Florida is doing from ownership down with an organizational philosophy of servanthood leadership and its not surprise they're successful
When everyone's work within an organization matters you won
Popcorn vendor, beer servers to trainers , front office janitors to team ownership everyone contributes.
I'm in awe of what they have shown .
That's a culture and an incredible pedigree of winning establishments because everyone gets recognized.
Build me that here please . Seriously. Lots and lots of talk .
Conroy is trying.

I would take that but it's hardly a knock your socks off deal.
And I assume the Flames will be able to get something close to that as a 1 year or rental.

Nope, I heard a First and just 1 second rounder but I cant confirm.
I was just told the response in the media about turning down a HUGE offer was laughable.

We didn’t win anything with Tkachuk and Bennett, yet they have an Audi’s worth of rings between them.
