Joao Fonseca has advanced to round 3 defeating Jenson Brooksby in four sets. He gets Chilean Nicolas Jarry next in an all South American battle.

the J-Wow serve speed at Wimby has been clocking into the 130s, who was the last 18 year old at his height to serve that hard? I'm not even sure what his best surface will be in the long term anymore.

At his height, I can only think of Roddick who won the US Open just turning 21.

Both Felix and Gabriel on court at the same time makes it a tough decision on who to watch. Might have to employ the one match on the big screen and one match on the laptop approach.

Gabriel won the first three games, Fritz then won the next three games, and then Gabriel won the final three games to take the opening set 6-3
Edit: Felix won the opening set versus Struff by an identical 6-3 score.

A poor service game from Gabe and Fritz pounces and then serves out the second set taking it 6-3. This match is just flying by lol

Gabe is giving Fritz all he can handle out there. He might not win this match, but he's making a statement that he's a guy who's going to make some noise on the tour.
Edit: Of course, I bring out the jinx and Fritz blanks Diallo in the 3rd set tie-break 7-love
Edit 2: They are closing the roof thus there will be a 12 minute delay before set 4 commences.

Gabe just hit a 143 MPH serve - Didn't get an ace, but it was unreturnable.

Diallo draws blood from Fritz which is a little unfortunate as Gabe is serving at 30-40 (up a break in set 4 though).
Edit: Two back-to-back massive holds by Gabe to keep his break advantage here in set 4.

Gabriel and Fritz are going the distance. Impressive stuff from the young Canadian.

Win or lose, in Diallo, I think there's little question we are looking at the new Canadian #1 player. His body of work this season now extends multiple surfaces and several months. It is only a matter of time before he cracks the top 25.
He's found a floor to his game this is certainly in the top 30 and far better than the other Canadians, and the ceiling is certainly as high as we are seeing today against Fritz who is unquestionably one of the top players on tour.

Looked like Gabe might have hurt his wrist in the previous game, but then he cracks a 140 MPH service ace which tells me that the wrist is fine.

Fritz breaks as Gabe tried to serve and volley at 30-all and dumped the volley in the net and then lost an extended rally on the next point.

That break of serve was the difference - Hold your head high Gabe, outstanding performance!!
Edit: For the match, Fritz recorded 16 unforced errors. Taylor played great and Gabe still took him to the limit.

There goes Felix crashing out of Wimbledon versus Jan-Lennard Struff (who came into this tournament ranked #125 in the world). Oh well, did anybody expect him to go much further with Charlie awaiting the winner?

Wouldn't have beaten Charlie but you'd expect him to get past Struff. Oh well, hopefully he can do better once he gets on hard.
