Good for him. Hope he succeeds. Unlike that glutenous traitor who signed up north.

Good for Pelts. Let's hope he can discover his game with Tampa.

Cost controlled depth so they can afford to pay their stars. Florida and Tampa have won multiple Cups signing tons of value contracts like these. Pelletier can play up and down a lineup and clearly has two-way value.

Yup signing or acquiring guys like Verhaghe, Marchessault, Luostarinen, etc who were a bit undervalued has worked out well for Tampa and Florida.
I could still see Pelletier becoming a Blake Coleman like player, so interesting to see him in Tampa Bay.

Solid deal. Helps having no state income tax to make these deals

At this money, it’s zero risk for Tampa. League minimum basically and first year not even a one way deal. No issue if he doesn’t turn out to be an NHLer.
I don’t agree he can’t play up and down a lineup, that is far from proven at the NHL level. It’s rather telling that he would be willing to sign a contract that so limits his upside.

He did a fine job of it this past year, IMO. 19 points in 49 games, looked just as comfortable next to Huberdeau as he did with guys like Kerins. Smaller sample but far less proven players signed deals today — this is exactly how Florida and Tampa got guys like Verhaeghe and Marchessault at similar points in their careers.

I hope you’re right Scorp. But it is interesting that he signed a contract where his only upside is keeping his pay at an NHL level even if he is in the AHL. If he had your confidence, no reason to go to 3 years on a deal like this.

I don't think the bar is to be as good as those two guys have become. But I don't blame him for chasing a bit of security too. He was on waivers a year ago after all.

Of course! Especially when you are making almost "minimum wage" in NHL terms. Every thousand saved in taxes counts...
