Bob McKenzie is Fully Retiring
Quote:
The trade is one for none.
Which is to say I’m exchanging my semi-retired TSN life of the last five years — doing the World Junior Championships, NHL Draft Rankings, a handful of Toronto Maple Leaf broadcasts, TradeCentre and Free Agent Frenzy — for a fully-retired life of doing absolutely nothing.
Well, nothing work related anyway.
Today’s Free Agent Frenzy is the last working day in a 48-year professional career that included stops at The Sault Star, The Globe and Mail, The Hockey News (twice), The Toronto Star, TSN, ESPN and NBC, amongst others.

I mean, on the cards. He's been at it a long time.
I'm a little surprised because I figured he liked doing World Jrs. just for the Company Paid Vacation element, but who knows?
He's done his bit and now he's done.
Fare thee well Bob! You will be missed.

For someone how retired years ago, he was on TSN every time I tuned in.

Oh I’m sure it’s fun… but he’s gotta be putting in mega hours off screen even only doing those limited events.
He’ll be missed.

It will take a long time before someone like McKenzie comes around again. He became an icon, and I can't think of anyone quite like him who is as universally liked. Hope he enjoys retirement.

Love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life…
Bob clearly loves what he does, but life moves fast and when you see a colleague like Greg Millen pass away suddenly at an age younger than himself, there’s an underlying feeling that it’s time to enjoy less commitments and stress in your life.
There could be a thousand other reasons for Bob to call it a career now, but he is a legend and an authority about all things relating to the game of hockey.
Congratulations Bob and enjoy your well deserved retirement!

If you were only tuning in for draft, free agency, and World Juniors, that was what he cut down to, so that would make sense.

One of the best. An absolute legend of legacy media, but learned quickly and adapted to changing media formats.
