It’s not a case of wanting to trade him just recognizing potential moveable assets based on what else the Flames have in the pipeline

If it’s to address a major need (LD) by trading from a position of strength (RD), you do it all day long. We’ve needed a top pairing LD since Gio. Byram could more than do that and then some with Weegar as a partner.

What metric are you using to suggest adding a first?

Andersson is about equal in play, but he also doesn't have the preserved baggage around him and has been a great teammate.

Byram is 4 years younger but since he doesn't seem to stick around very long I don't think that's much of a positive.

I would say equal value but I hope Andersson has Buffalo on his NT list.

Yes, and that is why they would want to trade him. It’s the right move, given their circumstances.

There are a lot of red flags for Byram. Acquiring him would be betting on his potential, his tools, and the coaching staff's ability to get his game on track. I am ok with the trade, as long as the Flames aren't overpaying. I am hesitant at his contract demands, however - again on potential.

As for Zary being redundant or whatever - that's crazy talk. This is a rebuilding team. Changing youth for youth isn't really rebuilding. I like what the Flames did at the draft, but in no way shape or form does this suddenly make Zary expendable.

Flames have a lot of forwards, but how many carry the puck up the ice like Zary? Zary is anything but expendable. I would look at including a vet or two, or trying to take off the very edges of this squad as best as I can. Zary isn't a core-piece like Wolf or Parekh is (or is tracking to be, in Parekh's case), but that hardly makes him expendable. He is in that very next layer along with Coronato for me. I certainly wouldn't include Zary on a roll of the dice that I think Byram is.

Wait, like you heard it's close through sources or you're just hoping that Royal's sources are right? Earlier you said you didn't have anything on this and guessed Zary might be a piece they'd want.

Understatement, If Zary doesn't get hurt (twice) Calgary makes the playoffs with ease.

I find it odd how people like to toss in Zary for guys who are not needle movers.

On top of that we have a bunch of left shot D in the system who haven’t been given a proper look. Let’s see what we have before moving assets and signing long term deals.

Zary 1st and prospects get the conversation started on top players.

Please tell us the red flags. And explain how Byram is a roll of the dice over Zary? Please keep in mind that they’re the same age, while Byram has already played over 100 more games, has nearly double the points of Zary and was a key player on a Stanley Cup winning team.

I wouldn't even trade Zary for Byram one for one. The most i'd throw at Byram is Pospisil and Mews. Byram struggles if he isn't playing with an elite D partner.

Everyone wants to be an insider. Yet I was told earlier that Elliott Friedman speculates and is not a reliable source. All you can do is laugh.

And who was his elite partner in Colorado? Josh Manson? Jack Johnson? It wasn’t Makar or Toews because they played together.

I don’t want to get anybody too excited… but the year before we got Sharangovich, I traded for him in my fantasy pool. And the year before we got Farabee I traded for him. Last year I traded for Byram… it is written.

Do you think you could make a trade for Celebrini in your league?

He looks pretty crappy and not fully engaged any time I've seen him play.
