You can’t bring him back can you. No after he made those comments and ones directed at fans. On top of that all that we got rid of the guys who didn’t want to be here.

Here’s an idea.
Tell Vegas this is what we need in order to make the deal. Have Vegas go and make a bunch of deals to get pieces that we would want in any deal. Then when it comes time to make the deal, back out and trade Rasmus elsewhere. Vegas is presumably weaker and Andersson has to wait. Not our fault a better deal came up. Burn bridges with Vegas and anderssons agent perhaps, but teach Vegas and Andersson a lesson.

Lots of people have said they're pissed with Ras; you just have to read this thread to see that. Has he tarnished his flames legacy? Probably. Is he, or any other UFA in the league, in any way obligated to agree to sign a long term extension with a team they're traded to? Absolutely not.
He's playing with fire if he only wants to go to Vegas. The knights have to come to the table with at least the rental value, and if they don't, he'll miss out on maybe 15M.
Again, it's June and there's plenty of time for a resolution.

Craig needs a ruthless AGM by his side . A McCrimmon or Zito type just to keep Craig the good cop and the other to be the bad cop
I get Craig wanting to be a good guy but? Or maybe were not aware of something going on in the background. Multiple asks , deals, options weighed . Wouldn’t want to trade spots with him

What comments did he make? I'm confused as I thought the fan base generally liked Ras.

Interesting, I'm actually team tank but I understand the frustration of players being angry at cheering for losses. I think it's a pretty natural reaction from any competitor. No one makes it into the NHL with the goal of tanking.

Seth Jones was a -18, -37, -38, -15, -18 and was even -6 in 21 games with the Panthers before winning the cup with them. Do you think he was only cocky once his +/- corrected itself? Florida paid Spencer Knight and a 1st for him. You're harping on that stat like it's gospel and you look foolish each time.

If Vegas doesn't have enough to offer then the Flames should just hold onto him until the trade deadline next season as he should fetch a decent return even as a pure rental.
|
Okay, just to be clear here.
He has a NTC that restricts just 6 teams. That's it. It doesn't give him carte blanche to say "I will only negotiate with team X". Otherwise, that would be in his contract.
Secondly, yes, he's a free agent in a year....that's not now. Currently he's under contract and needs to abide by his terms. Of which, he does NOT have license to pick and choose where he lands.
The problem is that Conroy was trying to do right by the player, because he's a player's GM. He asked him where he would sign instead of just trading him wherever. Andersson has taken advantage of the situation to turn his 6 team NTC into a 30 team NTC, and that's not fair play, even if it's not technically wrong.
He wants to go to a contender by all reports. Fine. L.A. is in the playoffs every year, and perhaps the presence of Andersson would push them over the top and they could make a run.
Does he listen to an offer to sign in L.A. also a pretty cool place to live? No, not even considering it.
That says to me that Andersson doesn't think he has it in him to turn a team into a champion. He wants to be a passenger and get a ride on a team already built to win.
Well #### that and #### him. I'm sick to death of these players that talk about winning but don't want to work for it. He certainly didn't do much for the Flames when they were in the playoffs.
I'm trying to remain unemotional about this, but frankly, this rubs me the wrong way, especially after how much love this city and team have given to Rasmus.
You can say that players don't owe it to teams to do the right thing, but it will come back to bit them. Guess what will happen in the next CBA negotiation? A new rule that dictates something around zero contract extensions if a player is traded in the final year of a contract. The player has to go all the way to UFA status before he can re-sign with a team.
I should be a lawyer.

This is kind of where I am, too. Let's say that the rental cost is Isaac Howard from Tampa for Rasmus. So, Vegas has to come up with the equivalent of a top 20 prospect league-wide, or a top 10 first in the next two drafts.
That's the cost of Rasmus, or he goes to Tampa for Howard.
I picked Howard out of a hat, because he is also rumoured to be moved.

As others have already mentioned, the time is now to just package Ras up to the highest bidder that will take him as a rental for this year. Will still beat whatever Vegas has to offer, and I’d rather deal him anywhere but Vegas. Time to get a bit ruthless.

The -38 put a bow tie on his awful season. He wasn’t good and his numbers have been on the decline for a bit.

Yeah, sorry but of course it does. What isn't in his contract is just as important as what's in it.
Conroy isn't doing right by anyone, he's potentially maximizing the players value but sussing out who he will sign with long term.
Absolutely not. The point I quoted proves you'd be horrible at it.

I've been so close minded about this.
Calgary owns Vegas 26, unprotected. Any return from Vegas has to overpay to compensate for the loss of value of that pick. The only item of value that Vegas has, is an unprotected 27. Barring that,
Rasmus cannot be moved until the deadline. If you trade him to another team, they will then trade him to Vegas to maximize value, and would not have the shackles of needing a futures return, or worrying about devaluing a pick. He has to go at 11:59 on deadline day.
The issue for Rasmus is that he is the first player in the league to be guaranteed a 6 year UFA contract, because he has talked himself into his own corner.
I don't see any other ways through.

Trade him to any of the 24 other teams that are interested as a rental—take the best package on the table. Build in conditional draft picks that upgrade if he signs an extension before 12:00 AM on July 1, 2026.
If he doesn’t re-sign, fine—the team gets him for the season and playoffs, and the picks stay as-is. But if he does re-sign, Calgary gets a stronger return.
Vegas can either make a real offer now or watch someone else get him for next season. If he wants to wait it out and try to circle back to Vegas next free agency, that’s his call—but it could cost him two full years of term.
Edit: didn't consider getting flipped to Vegas after next season's playoffs and before July 1st. But at least they won't get him at his current contract.

The only team that would want Rasmus as a rental is a team that expects to make the playoffs this year. Why would that team want to flip Rasmus especially to Vegas that has very little to offer when they could use him for a playoff run?
