lol. Well it’s Hardball time. Bring him back as the 7th d-man and give him spot duty every 6th game until he decides he is willing to go more than one place. Or maybe give him a big chance to show his skills as the newly minted captain and PP QB on the Wranglers. Get a modest swag revenue boost from AHL ‘stare down’ shirts.

It doesn't make sense that the LAK offer happening during the draft was based on Byfield. They could make that offer tomorrow.

But, if the package was based on the 1st round pick that LA had... that was 31st overall and not very appealing.

Either way, the story doesn't entirely add up.

I hate Vegas so much.
I also hate how this team just keeps crippling itself.

Constantly two steps forward (great drafts) one or two steps back (this kind of thing.)

If management and Andersson are not on good terms now, that is entirely on management.

It doesn't sound like Andersson blocked a trade, he just won't extend long term with anyone besides Vegas. Is that not his choice? Is that not what free agency is for?

I just don't get how you can be mad at the player. He's made it clear for a while that he wants to win. We are not a contender. I also don't think the Kings are close either. We should have shopped him last summer or at the deadline.

Like, Rasmus knows this is his own personal FA time right? The Flames are open to letting him negotiate with any team he sees a fit with. Seems incredibly narrow minded to hone in solely on one team . I guess he misses his HaniBro too much.

No doubt, but that’s why he won’t be here. This is the kind of thing that sinks a season, so he’s gone. The only folks who would be happy to see number 4 opening night would be those who have been castigated as tank commanders.

After the pre draft announcement of a difference of opinions, this thing soured quickly.

I think it all comes down to conversations between Anderson and Conroy. If Anderson said right from the get go he is a rental unless it's Vegas, then Conroy has no reason to be upset. If Anderson has said otherwise, and Conroy has acted on Anderson's statements, only to have the carpet pulled out from under him, then Conroy has a right to be pissed.

It's hard to imagine Conroy would negotiate a deal with LA if he knew Anderson would not even listen to their extension offer, but who really knows.

I believe the Flames will get more than a second round pick for him, which is what they used to draft him. If management can keep trading up in value for assets it's still a win. Can't always hit for a home run.
He only has a 6 team no trade list
Assume he has the follwing teams for sure on it.
Edmonton
Winnipeg
Buffalo

Most likely
Ottawa
Vancouver

leaving only 1 other team and according to most agents Most players have all the Canadian teams on the list.

It is possible that some of the teams interested in Anderson only want him with an extension, but I would think if your team was competitive and you would think having a whole year to convince him to sign an extension its probably not a big deal. Its not like you are signing him for the last few months of the season, if he is traded before the season he is moving there for the year and going to get settled in and move his wife and kids there.

So as long as he fits in and is enjoying it you would have to think your team has a better then average chance of resigning him.

We haven't seen the full details of the new deal yet, but it sounds like the new rules will apply to any contracts signed after July 1 next year. So yeah, if he's still unsigned a year from now, he goes from being able to sign an 8-year deal on June 30 (with the team that holds his rights at next year's trade deadline) to a max 6-year deal on July 1 (with any team).

That I don't know and, if true, obviously takes some of that leverage away.

Why does this only work one way? You and Jiri both love to tell people they shouldn’t have strong feelings and/or shouldn’t be fans/ find another team/ get another hobby if you’re frustrated with the direction of the team and decide to share that on a discussion board.

We all have stress and things going on in our lives outside of this silly little website. But only one side of this discussion seems to think they should be allowed to participate without having their legitimacy as fans brought into question or mocked as being “outraged” when the discussion is actually super tame by hockey fan standards.

You tried to put people on blast for their opinion and got called out on it. Sorry you’re not feeling well and I do hope you feel better soon, but maybe just take the L and calm down a bit.

Vegas can first make a trade with LA. I'm sure Craig wouldn't turn down a Whopper just because someone else bought it first.

If Vegas wants to get him, go elsewhere to acquire something that Calgary will want by trading away something else that has value to another team. If Rasmus wants that 8-year deal, he will have to open up to other teams if Craig holds firm.
Conroy needs to open up a market for Andersson as a rental, and make it clear to Andersson's camp that he's happy enough to go that route.

Both sides have leverage and I expect both to lean on that until a solution is found. If it isn't found then Andersson probably does himself out of an 8 year deal and Conny gets trade value on a retained Andersson, which should still be pretty good.

I genuinely don't believe the value difference between rental and re-signed is the chasm some are making it out to be. The Dobson trade is probably absolute max value you get, so two mid round firsts in a weaker draft.

Life's way too short to be outraged at stuff like this.

No more invites to Insiderrrr events, Bingo jr already requires significant resources.

On a more serious note, with Ekblad locked up Rasmus instantly becomes #1 target.

Yep I'd 100% agree with that.

He's not blocking a trade anywhere. Just saying where he would extend

You can argue with a person without specifically stating they are the ones that are impatient. I said his style was above board because he's always been less whiney.

Yah, people thinking it could be for Byfield are just setting themselves up for disappointment. Who knows what these guys think a "whopper" deal is? I'm guessing it might have been a lottery protected 1st and a prospect. Which is actually quite a bit for Andersson already IMO.

It's becoming clear that Tkachuk handled this whole thing way better than any of the other guys who left. He didn't string the team along, he was clear up front that he wasn't going to re-sign, and he gave a list of (reportedly) five teams he would sign an extension with.
