Since then, there’s been repeated rumours of the Leafs approaching Marner on extending or accepting a trade. Marner reportedly exercised his right to block a trade at the deadline because his wife was expecting. How is this Treliving’s fault?
I know it’s fashionable to criticize/blame Treliving for everything, but that’s only demonstrates limited mental capacity for understanding context.

Objectively, what was Treliving supposed to do here?
Not get a reporter to leak that the
leafs think Vegas is tampering.
The rest of your post I wasn't even
Talking about.
And to the last barb. Hah. Context that pertains to what? All I said was this attempted blackmail reeks of desperation. Nothing to do with whether he could sign the player or not.

That wasn't tampering at all. That was the Rangers knowing that Fox wanted to play for them. It was a risk of drafting him and why he fell so far, which we still made the pick. In the end it was a worthwhile pick based on the trade we made involving him. But he was never signing in Calgary and our team knew it when they drafted him.

The Flames knew the risk of drafting him, yes. But that doesn't give the Rangers the right to talk to him - if they did, before the deal was done, and without permission from the Flames, then that would be tampering. If they had permission, then no problem, but if they didn't then it is tampering, regardless of any prior knowledge of where he wanted to play.

Yes, I understand that. I was just responding to the poster that figured there had to have been tampering in the case of Fox and the rangers. I was just stating of all cases that was one where the Rangers didn't have to tamper or do anything really. Just basically wait for Fox to one day play for them because everyone knew he he wanted to be there.
Yes, I know they eventually gave up the pick to Caronlia to expedite the process, but I highly, highly doubt they were tampering when he was a Flames prospect.

Sounds like the the Marner trade to Vegas is going to happen according to Friedman. That pretty much kills the likelihood of Vegas taking a step back this year and it likely means (even more so than before) the 2026 pick from the Hanifin trade will be outside the top 20 in the draft.

Vegas finally has the assets to make an Anderson trade work!

12m is 14m with no state tax

$12M AAV for a winger is not really a bargain. Maybe you could argue that on a 7 year deal he would have demanded $14M to make up the difference in term.

Kinda disappointing that the new CBA didn't address it. I mean lots of multinationals equalize pay around the world for tax, the NHL should be able to figure it out.
