A GG hire pretty much guarantees Dallas is never getting past the Oilers this cycle. What are they thinking ? That’s not the guy to get you over the hump.

Is it a different ownership group of something now that back when GG was head coach in Dallas? It's kind of weird that they would circle back to a coach that didn't help them much the last time he was there.

The good thing is they won't get to the Conference Finals either, so maybe someone else in the Central can take the Oilers out if they need to.

Not understanding why the Stars fired DeBoer and then hire GG. Seems like a move the Oilers would make

Given how the season ended all I can come up with is they wanted a “player friendly” coach

He was originally hired by the Stars in June 2011. Gagliardi bought the team in November 2011. He was fired by Nill in May 2013, about 2 weeks after Nill was hired as the GM.

In four seasons as an NHL head coach, he has not won a single playoff game. He missed the playoffs three times and was swept in the first round the one time he made the playoffs.

Well, time to hope for the Avs to take out the Oilers if that’s the case.

I just knew GG was going to get another gig. The brainiac that rolled out the Brouwerplay goes to Edmonton and all of a sudden has McD and Pissy potting a million goals and is hailed as some sort of genius as if he had anything to do with their PP success. Dallas is about to learn the hard way that he's the same old dull coach.

But maybe GG will have some special intel into the Oilers from his time there. Like all of the Oilers strategies they employ. Like, sit on the bench until McDavid/Draisaitl have been on for 4 minutes, crouch in front of your goalie, flop and dive at every touch, etc. This will give Dallas an edge knowing these types of high level hockey strategies that only Florida can manage.

Here’s my other hope:

For as crap of a head coach as GG is, it seems like he’s actually a fairly good assistant coach. So, hopefully, this also hurts the Oilers somewhat - though that might just be a bit of the copium talking.

I lost all respect for him and I think his players did too with his bush league "tactic" of hurling his stick into row 18 of the Saddledome.

Um. I know you're the 'frog guy' but...have you been licking them for hallucinogenic effect?

Gully sucked through and through.

Great hair though.

Funnily enough, Nill fired Gulutzan about a month after taking over as GM.

I’ll never forget seeing that and then the segment cuts to Giordano laughing to the media about it, in the dressing room!

He is a good tactical coach and very smart guy and positive. It's why BT hired him here to be the coach.

But, at least here, he couldn't properly handle the player side of highly paid NHL players. As an assistant coach you be play the foil to head coach or good cop bad cop and adapt to the players based on how the head coach handles a player...but he lost the dressing room with the Flames not far into the second year and could never get it back. His assistants were far from helpful in that regard. Dave Cameron and the fellow that (I think) passed away recently.

Resorting to the stick throw was a desperate attempt to gain control back.

I think any body including my neighbour's puppy can have a successful PP over there playing McDiver and Pissy the full 2 minutes every.power.play!

It warms my heart to see Glue Gun still being used 9 years later.
Jetfire, if you still post here, thanks for the walk down memory lane and the laugh.
