Andersson won’t be on a good contract if he is signed in Calgary. They already took that swing

Kind of like how Hanifin wouldn't sign any extensions prior to being traded on March 6th but then had no problem signing one a little over a month later on April 11th.
Oh they probably had a deal in the drawer.

Agreed. I was speaking more to those who totally reject the Flames speaking to their players about contracts before trading. The issue is losing the asset for nothing. If the return isn’t great, then at least it isn’t nothing.

Would also be nice if this happened and it takes a year for him to get over how wonderful it was to live in Calgary leading to him inexplicably firing pucks into his own net late in the 3rd period of tie games…..

I was just looking at Cap Wages, San Jose has $55 million in cap space LMAO

They need double their current payroll just to get to the floor.

What are the penalties for not getting to the cap floor?

Trading next year's 1st for Huberdaeu should be the league's mandated penalty.

- It’s a gamble for the Flames
I can see why people are frustrated. The Flames are limited to destinations where Andersson will sign long-term, because only teams, who can sign Andersson long-term, will pay the Flames’ price. And no matter how patient the Flames are, the Flames’ leverage will decrease as Andersson narrows the Flames’ trade market, and other teams realize how narrow that market is. (Eventually, word will get around the league about the teams that Andersson has turned down.)

I’m personally hoping for a quick resolution. The longer things go on without the Flames finding a team who will pay their price and with whom Andersson will extend, the more likely it is that such a team doesn’t exist.

In the two months leading up to the trade deadline, he had 2 goals and 1 assist in 23 games and was a -13 in that time. I don't know if we can assume teams were lining up to throw big assets at the Flames to acquire him at that point.

Puckpedia showing 44 million; capwages has Askarov still in the AHL, and Couture already on LTIR. If they have that much cap space, than Couture would simply not be placed there.

None of their free agents should require a large raise, so looks like they'll be players for UFAs or for cap dumps.

Sharks are going after Ekblad and Vladar according to early offseason rumors.

Plus they could be a landing spot for Andersson.

Andersson has been playing like #### for at least 1/2 a year now

His general value has always been around a 1st from someone that think they are a contender and maybe some mid pick/B prospects if they feel generous/desperate

It’s the same last year or now or at the TDL.

That’s why he is still here

I thought it was that NYI asked for Voronkov and Columbus said no.

So he's worth around what Carlo, and Walman got at the last TD? That seems a bit low.

You might be better off trading Andersson to a team like Florida that doesn’t really care about draft picks. Either them, Dallas, or Vegas. The pick can be super far away. I know some hate that idea, but it could be a good trade chip down the line or even used to continue to bolster the cupboards. Vegas, Dallas, or Florida need cap space, and that’s exactly how we will extract the value out of an “non-extended” Andersson. It’ll be up to the acquiring team to make space for Rasmus. I also think we need to capitalize on Pospisil’s 1m deal with how stacked we are at wing. Trading Andersson (50%) and Pospisil have a combined cap hit of 3.275m. Or, Miromanov on the bottom pairing at 1.25m isn’t bad either.

Florida
To FLA: Andersson (50%), Miromanov
To CGY: 2028 1st (unprotected) + *2026 2nd/2026 4th + 2027 6th* + Luostarinen/Rodrigues
*if it’s Luostarinen, Flames get 2026 4th (FLA) and 2027 6th (FLA) if it’s Rodrigues then it’s 2026 2nd (FLA)
- Florida gets two defenseman in this deal, helpful when Ekblad and Schmidt leave. If Florida prefers Luostarinen over Rodrigues I think we’d be fine with that too.

Dallas
To DAL: Andersson (50%)
To CGY: 2027 1st (unprotected), 2026 2nd, Dumba

- Dallas saves space by getting rid of Dumba and save 775k to make
Room for another depth player signing.

If Robertson is available:
To DAL: Andersson, Coleman (50%), Pospisil
To CGY: Robertson, Dumba

Vegas
To VGK: Andersson (50%), Miromanov
To CGY: *conditions on 2026 pick*, 2028 1st (unprotected), Hague, mid pick or project prospect
*Calgary can choose between 2026 and 2027 1st round pick, unprotected from Hanifin trade. If Vegas chooses to trade the 2027 1st, Calgary can choose to swap picks with the team that acquired the 2026/2027 1st round pick depending on what Calgary chooses*

- Vegas gets Andersson on a sweet deal, Calgary can defer a pick if the pick for example is a conference finals pick, and can sign Hague to a deal instead of going through the poor UFA route. Hague could be a diamond in the rough.

I am sure most of you will hate the deals posted above, but I’m just trying to find an alternate route that could give us more assets down the road. Andersson could get us a 1st and players like Luostarinen/Rodrigues/Dumba/Hague that could help us fetch more assets down the road.

Explains why they wanted Andersson. My guess is they may not have been able to extend him based on the cap hit and Conroy wanted a package with an extension to maximize value.

No first round pick comes unprotected anymore.

Still June 29th and these reactions are going off the rails.

Seriously, wait until July 2nd (or one day after Ekblad signs) before you go full woe is me.
