Another off-season where the biggest news isn't all fine young players they drafted, but rather the Flames next veteran player sell-off.
With how this team competes in the NHL - zero cynicism, nice instead of ruthless, always try to win, just make the playoffs - GMCC is in a position where he needs a slam dunk Ras trade to get a #1c or lots of good assets. It's a ####ty spot to be in because few if any teams seem to share the Flames' approach - so we are getting passed by other rebuilds as top teams close out their contention windows and begin to tank. Most teams understand that to get elite talent, to sell lots of merch/sweaters, to matter outside of your local market, you need star players.
Maybe it's because Flames recently had a bunch of stars, and this memory has not faded yet, but they seem to be ignoring this important fact.
They sure do seem to be in limbo land. I can easily imagine a scenario where 4-5 years from now Flames are still a 15-20 team and Wolf and Parekh get to FA ASAP with their contracts so that they can get out of here.
It's not a complaint, just an observation.
