Sergeev could step right in and take the Wranglers starters job now. See how far he could take them in the playoffs this year. Ignatjew has all but checked out and Cooley is struggling with consistency. Sergeev is still on a roll.

Does he still have to play in a third-place game or something?

stunned that Isaac Howard wins the Hobey Baker over Buium and Leonard
imo, he is not even top 3
Top5, top 10 sure, but the voters got this one wrong

I agree completely. Leonard was IMO by far the best forward in the NCAA and Buium was by far the best D (well maybe other than Hutson).

Nice to see Sergeev get inked. Wanted both him and Suniev signed after their NCAA seasons were done.

Based on his elite prospects profile, it looks like Trevor Hoskins has transferred to Merrimack College for next season. The move will bring him to Hockey East which is a significant bump in competition compared to the AHA where he played this season.

Looking forward to seeing his progress next year with better competition. He could be an intriguing prospect to watch next season.

Buium and Leonard both played on stacked offensive teams, Howard was the only offense in Michigan, he had 21 more points than the next guy, played a nice 200 foot game and was a huge reason for their great record this year. He stood out large in most of their games.

Well deserved IMO

I was told a couple of months ago not to be shocked if Howard turns into a better winger than Leonard at the NHL level

The NCAA rule changes have certainly shaken things up for next season.

By my count, these are the Flames prospects who will be in the NCAA:
  • Littler (R7 2022) Sophomore North Dakota
  • Lipinski (R4 2023) Freshman Maine
  • Mews (R3 2024) Freshman Michigan
  • Hoskin (R4 2024) Sophomore Merrimack (transfer from Niagara)
  • Misa (R5 2024) Freshman Penn State
  • Jamieson (R6 2024) Freshman Denver
  • Reschny (R1 2025) Freshman North Dakota
  • Potter (R1 2025) Sophomore Arizona State
  • Lane (R6 2025) Freshman Harvard

Also, Phillips (R3 2025) is committed to Minnesota and Wyttenbach (R5 2025) to Quinnipiac, but both are expected to play one more year of junior before starting college in the fall of 2026.

Laing conspicuously missing from this list. He will have to earn a contract this year or Flames lose his rights.

Yes.

I went off the information on Elite Prospects and Laing is the only North American player chosen by the Flames in last year's draft who is not either signed to an NHL contract (Parekh, Gridin, Basha, Battaglia) or committed to the NCAA (Mews, Hoskin, Misa, Jamieson).

Unless the new CBA retroactively expands all unsigned players' rights to 4 years, Laing could be the last player drafted by the Flames whose rights will expire after 2 years.
