They are trying to build a great locker room culture. Having the Andersson drama dragging out into the season will not help with that.

To Badgers point, if the Habs knew they were the only team he’d sign with, or one of two, maybe they reel in their offer a bit. But it went quick, it came down to two teams and there was no time for this to play out in the media.

Agreed, but we don't know if that type of situation emerged with Andersson, except with Vegas. And I can't even piece together an offer from them that is the tiniest bit tempting. They have nothing futures wise.
I'm not too worried. I still think this happens still before camp breaks.

Oh for sure and it’s not totally out of the Flames wheelhouse to hold onto players at the deadline.

I hate that our team is so reactive too and doesn't think long term. Guys like Andersson, Kadri, Coleman should have been shopped at the deadline.
Instead, we went into fantasy world of being on the verge of a cup run. And now we are going to lose a lot of value with an Andersson trade.
I'm sure in a couple years when we are trying to trade Kadri and he is worth 10x less than he was at the deadline we will regret it too. It's classic Flames short term thinking.
Even now, they aren't sure if they are going to be rebuilding. And it was mentioned a lot depends on if Andersson re signs.

If Andersson is on the roster in the season opening, it’ll be because he wants to pump up his value and show last season was a wobble. He will want prime PP time, and it will be in management’s interest to give it to him. That will impact how Parekh is deployed. Conversely, if Parekh is lights out early in the season and earns prime PP time, that will likely suppress Andersson’s numbers - bad for his contract and trade values.
There’s a very narrow path to Andersson starting the season with the Flames turning out well for the franchise.

You don’t know if they tried to shop Kadri and Coleman. They could have asked either got told no and then didn’t pursue it because what’s the point. The fact that they still have a tonne of cap space and want futures for Andersson only really points in one direction.

The contract length changes make it a huge risk for Andersson as well. I still think he is gone in the summer. Will just have to see what the return is and judge from there.

I mean yes it's a bit early to be reacting this way but the sting of the Hanifin situation is still fresh.
We got peanuts, partly because he wouldn't commit to an extension before the trade, and then extended there anyways.
We are naturally still upset about how that all went down.
This situation is different and may still play out to our favor but it's natural to be a bit concerned.
It's a message board, many just need to vent out the frustration of potentially being screwed again.

Forgive us for our cynicism, but we are well conditioned to angst given our track record with getting fair returns for players. (nothing for Gio/Brodie/johnny). Gifting a first rounder to get rid of Mony. Reduced returns for Hanifin. So yeah, it’s understandable why we are on edge. Yes, those are mostly Treliving issues (or Treliving caused issues). And now faced with a potential reduced return for our best trade chip. Team can’t catch a break. Perpetually pushing sand uphill. Would be nice to catch a good break for once.

Oh and never mind on the eight year contract thing. That wouldn’t kick in till Sept 2026 I think. Very well could be on the team to start the year

For me it’s just the excitement of possibly getting a 1st, a young roster player and/or a prospect is slowly becoming fear that we are going to end up with Noc Hague and a 2027 2nd.
I am still holding out hope, it’s just getting harder to envision.

Yeah, I was surprised at how many posters kept arguing that we'll get as much this year as we would have last year.
As with Hanifin, and others, it isn't true.
We did well with the Markstrom trade, yes - but that doesn't mean we couldn't have gotten Bahl, the 1st, and more, had we traded him the prior doeadline.

We have been conditioned to have pessimism regarding the team. 2 playoff series wins in two decades will do that.
Also the fact we lost so many of our good players in the past for scraps and spare parts. I absolutely do trust Conroy over previous GMs, but let's not criticize fans for being pessimistic given our past.

Just throwing this out there (if it hasn't been mentioned already), but what about the possibility of signing RA to a short term deal (2 year extension) at a higher AAV then he'd get on the market now that we have the money? Then come to his last year we shop him with retention? He wins now by getting a load of money, and can test free agency with a higher cap in a couple years, while we also recoup assets at a later time. I'd only do this if we aren't getting the value we want, closer to the deadline.
