I think the penalty should be the Flames receiving Nicholas Hague and 3 first round picks in return.

Another 2 1sts from Toronto for being hypocrites, and another 1st for Treliving dickhead tax.

Dubas was fired, in part, because he wanted to move off of the core four and it was believed he wanted to trade Marner.
Since then, there’s been repeated rumours of the Leafs approaching Marner on extending or accepting a trade. Marner reportedly exercised his right to block a trade at the deadline because his wife was expecting. How is this Treliving’s fault?
I know it’s fashionable to criticize/blame Treliving for everything, but that’s only demonstrates limited mental capacity for understanding context.

What I fail to understand is why do people hate Vegas? Don’t we want them to improve to keep Edmonton down?
Both Edmonton and Vegas will age out by the time we become competitive.

I don't really hate them. I admire how aggressive they are.
But I suspect it's a combination of:
- Being gifted an generous expansion situation. The most generous in history
- Becoming contenders immediately
- Seemingly doing all they can to circumvent the cap
- And doing it all as a very non traditional hockey market.
Again I don't hate them. I'd like to see them get worse next season because of the pick but beyond that I have no strong feelings.

To be fair the previous expansion situations were horrendous.
But yeah #### them for the cap stuff. And for our draft pick.

I get that. But we need some good teams to make sure next spring doesn’t suck again.

Don't understand why people hate Vegas? You must be numb from watching the Flames to long. Here's the short list.
-gifted good teem with new expansion rules
-cheating the cap with ltir rosters for the playoffs.
-band Wagoners
-no loyalty to top players like fleury
-unable to keep edmonton down lately.
-Top players we wanted ended up there, Stone, Eichel.

I don’t mind Vegas. I like how they go for it. They did a great job of assembling a team in expansion. There are definitely times I wish the Flames would be more aggressive
Only knock on them from my perspective would be the use of LTIR. But that’s more a league problem. Not illegal.
If you’re not cheating you’re not trying

Except the expansion rules didn't gift them a good team.
GMs panicking and making stupid side deals is what gifted them a good team.
Florida trading them Smith and Marchessault to protect Alex Petrovic
Anaheim giving them Theodore to protect Josh Manson
All that expansion draft showed is NHL GMs aren't very smart most of the time.

You can look at our situation. Tkachuk decided he was leaving before he even stepped on the ice in 21/22. Johnny was already thinking about leaving half way through his contract.
LeBron James and Dwayne Wade planned to form a super team when they became free agents 2 years in advance. The Warriors players recruited Durant before he became a free agent.
Nathan MacKinnon and the Avalanche a freaking openly recruiting Crosby. Friedman himself said MacKinnon went to the tournament specifically to recruit Crosby.
|
A player thinking about leaving is not the same thing as a team contacting a player who is under contract with another team. Players can plan their own lives. Teams cannot contact contracted players. It isn't difficult to see the difference here.

I’m fine if a team gets smoked with tampering charges. If Marner knew explicitly what Vegas was willing to sign him for then he had less pressure to waive his NMC.

They did benefit greatly by coming in alone. Other expansions have been two or more teams.

The greatest punishment the league could give Vegas wouldn't be to take away a first round pick but to make their 2026 first rounder 1OA.

GMs panicked because of the unprecedented new rules.

Regarding the Friedman discussion about Marner, without a doubt that's the new sheriff in town (Keith Pelley), shaking things up by not allowing the unwritten turn-the-other cheek-tampering, taking place, to occur. He's probably salty about this stuff coming out in the open and Marner seemingly going there with news leaking so early, that he wants to prove a point that teams shouldn't get away with it. Good luck proving it though.
