Andersson update from Friedman on 32 Thoughts:

- Team isn’t going to acquire him unless they can extend him (won’t pay the acquisition cost without extension)
- Andersson has a lot of power here
- A team did think they were going to get it done, but Andersson wouldn’t extend at this time
- Vegas took a big run
- Other teams couldn’t get the commitment that Andersson would sign
- Calgary sees benefit to Andersson wanting to have a big season
- It’s a gamble for the Flames

Dang. So it’s Hanifin part deux. It’s hard to begrudge Andersson but this will impact return.

No other way to put it. This sucks. Now it’s out there and not only does andersson have power, so do teams where Andersson will extend. Limited market means limited return. No need to outbid yourself.

Looks like Andersson wants to go to market. He'll likely be a deadline rental, so we can expect a return along the lines of a late 1st + B or C prospect. That also increases the likelihood of Conroy keeping him as an 'own rental' if the team is in a playoff spot at the deadline.

Bummer.

No team wants to acquire a 1 year Andersson. They want him for 8-9 years.

That 2 teams met conroys price, but Andersson stood in the way, is massively disappointing. If he wants to pad his stats in Calgary, for personal gain, I'd spitefully put him on the third pairing. But, that's just my annoyance talking.

The kick in the junk is that we shouldn’t be listening to insiders who say there is a strong Market for Andersson. Key info is not what teams are interested in Anderson, rather which teams Andersson is interested in.

Hoping the smooth talking wizard can convince Rasmus to extend in Toronto. And we get Easton plus for him. I think if we push Treliving and Andersson will extend there, that is our best chance given trelivings record of overpaying. But he will be busy with trying to salvage Marner. Who knows. Maybe there is a three way trade that comes out of that situation.

Buckle down. Gonna be a bumpy (and potentially longer) ride, more so than what we were hoping for.

Keep in mind that it's not to Andersson s benefit to go to UFA. The rules change to a max 6 year term, for him next year.

Yeah, doesn't look like the Flames will get a Dobson type return here.

As mentioned, Hanifin part deux

Dang. I bet the team that took a big run was Columbus. Now it feels like they might have fumbled the deadline but maybe the messaging was the same.

I don’t see how this is any different than the situation last week. There has never been any doubt that his value is tied to re-signing.

They can still trade him for pennies on the dollar to whoever, just like they could have last week.

I guess I don’t understand what “sucks” about this.

To have a totally willing player who wil negotiate with another team in order to get a better return for the team he’s leaving IS A RARITY. it’s a bonus. A bonus. 100% a bonus if it happens.

Any other way of trading him, such as at the deadline, is NORMAL.

Holy overreaction, Batman. We're not even at free agency yet. One year of Andersson, especially if retained, is still very valuable. It'll get done and some will be disappointed with the return, whatever it ends up being.

Stood in the way how? He doesn’t have to do any of this.

A little early to proclaim Hanifin part 2 IMO; UFA is pretty weak this year and the big names will disappear quickly undoubtedly leaving teams who will feel they’ve missed out. I actually think patience is going to pay off on this trade.

The difference is that it sounds like teams actually met whatever price Conroy wanted. It’s not unexpected his value is tied to re-signing but would have been nice to get an actual premium return for him.

I’d think he still wants to be traded before the new CBA kicks in though

Or - and here me out here - ALL information is just people talking, and should be considered accordingly.

Conroy has to remain firm, or the other GMs will eat him alive. Two years in, and we are still seeing them testing him to see if they can take advantage.

Some people on here don't have a negotiating-skills bone in their body.

While true, I think Flames fans are entitled to a little concern given how the Hanifin situation played out

Not sure that's correct, Andersson in this situations sounds like its all about the money,

Have a really good year, sign as a UFA, get the big contract.

That's the path,
