Hopefully he’ll be the first successful Flames pick to play their draft+1 in Europe since Granlund

6'3" 200lbs 17 year old center with eye popping offensive numbers?
I like it.

Colbourne, Jankowski, Honzek, Stockselius? All big men, good hands and perimeter players. One of these types of players has to turn out eventually right ?

Interview on 960... He has a flight to Calgary for the prospects camp, leaving Sweden tomorrow at 6:00am (it's 8:45pm right now).
Backlund texted him about an hour ago to welcome him to the team.

Another swing for the fences on offensive upside. Conroy being true to his word when he said that they'd be prioritizing offensive upside, at least with these first few picks. People talk about the Dallas model of drafting, and this is pretty much it. You still need some luck for them to pan out, but if you don't swing for the fences, you will never hit a homerun.

I like this kind of thinking. Those other average guys we can find, let's roll the dice for some top end talent.

It’s difficult to determine how impressive Stockselius’ production is given he’s from Swedish junior. Perhaps this puts things in perspective? In the year after his draft year, William Stromgren (June birthday) had 36 points in 44 games, 0.82 points/game in Swedish junior. In his draft year, Stockselius (July birthday) had 51 points in 40 games, 1.28 points/game in Swedish junior. This comparison is especially flattering to Stockselius when you consider Stockselius recently beat cancer.

I'm really happy with this pick, big guy who needs to get stronger before we really see what his potential is but over a point per game and an easy guy to cheer for. Excited to hear the reports coming out of development camp once he gets out there with his peers. Hopefully his skating can keep improving over the next few years! Surprised there's no more buzz with this one, his stats at every level have been over a PPG, and sounds like a very skilled big man.
Does anyone have any insights on how long he would be expected to stay in J20 in Sweden? Would he likely be playing in the Liiga over there before potentially coming to NA down the line?
Almost 2PPG in the playoffs too, seems like he's almost ready to move up and start playing against men sooner rather than later especially if he can have a good summer and keep adding strength to that 6'3 frame. Already almost 200 pounds.

Honestly, I'm most excited about this pick of all the picks this year, even though it's much less of a sure thing than Reschny or Potter. He's tall but skinny, and has put up excellent counting stats at every level so far. Assuming that his thyroid cancer stunted his physical development - which is a reasonable assumption given how childhood cancer (especially thyroid cancer) and treatment can mess with hormones - it seems pretty likely that he can put on considerably more muscle over the next few years. That should also help him get faster.
It's a bit of a swing for the fences pick, but the Flames have had great luck with second round Swedish picks over the years and I've got a good feeling about this one.

Somewhere down the family tree Kristian Huselius' ancestors original last name was Stockselius and when someone read the name they were like "Who-selius? and it stuck and was changed and spelled to look more Swedish.
