Hanifin was a little different as right or wrong they were trying to sign him up until the deadline. Andersson’s situation feels more like Lindholm. Hopefully they get an equally good overpay lol

On the Athletic podcast a few days ago, Pronman and Wheeler made the comment that to say the 2026 draft is so much deeper isnt necessarily accurate.
They said for one, it's so far out. Last yr at this time Hagens was #1, he fell to 7.
The other part they said is the US program isn't strong again next year and they maybe mentioned one other country that wasn't great as well.

Does kind of feel like if Andersson played for a team in say, New York, he’d have more suitors and better offers. But GMs know he wants to leave a Canadian team, and his leaving is inevitable so it’s kind of the opposite of a Canadian tax where you pay a player more to be here. Like GMs expect a Canadian discount on what they feel they have to pay. And history, recently with the Flames, sort of looks like that to me with the only team who really shelled out for one of our players being another Canadian team.

I don’t know, all along, I’ve thought 2026 draft picks were probably more valuable anyway.
If they get picks for next season in a trade, that might be better

So if they are going to get a mid late 1st and a prospect back then taking a swing next year makes sense. Might get less than if they traded him at the deadline last year we will just have to see how it turns out. The Markstrom trade turns out great in the summer.

My take is there are a couple of teams with multiple 2026 picks that make the most likely suitors:
Boston: Boston 2026 1st and Leafs 2026 1st
Carolina: Carolina 2026 1st and Stars 2026 1st
San Jose: San Jose 2026 1st and Oilers 2026 1st
Seattle: Kraken 2026 1st and Lightning 2026 1st
Always easier to move a first that isn't your own and I could see any of these teams doing that.
Boston: Leafs 2026 1st + Lohrei
Carolina: Stars 2026 1st + Nadeau
San Jose: Oilers 2026 1st + Bystedt
Seattle: Lightning 2026 1st + Firkus
To me something like that feels like the most likely return for a player like Andersson at this point.

It's obviously disappointing for us all and the club if the quality offers for andersson aren't coming in. Hopefully after ekblad signs somewhere but given no one made a move at the draft and ekblad is really the only semi comparable ufa piece after that the flames are probably going to have to lower their ask youd think.
Cant see him bringing in a very exciting package at the deadline, super late 1st, B prospect and lower end nhl tweeter or depth player seems to be the template lately for a rental who isn't a real star

After that LeBrun tweet, I suspect Andersson moves today. Teams know they'll need to step up their offers to get one of two top RHD available

All these guys predicting massive movement and you wouldn’t believe who might be available are now recycling old news. But hey, can always change with one phone call (duh!)

LeBrun apparently said that the stars want futures if they trade Robertson

There's time for an Andersson deal. I'm on board with the CC line of thinking here. He's under contract and even though returning may not be ideal, he's going to be working hard in a contract year. But even before then, this years' free agent class is total dog####. Teams will come to the realization in a week that they need a dman and there's only one notable out there. Byram isn't good enough yet. So we'll see. There's plenty of time though.

Makes sense, they are trying to have much needed cap. Getting Andersson helps then cap wise for one year, then they have another player aged 30+ signed for a long time. I expect they are hoping for more long term relief.

In a week, top teams will be out of cap, removing options for the Flames,
Obviously Flames want to be patient,
Not sure that's going to increase the value

Lebrun’s tweet is going to have me carry on with my day and I do not expect anything. Conroy has yet to do a big draft day trade and that is okay. It might happen today if a team gets serious but urgency is a lot less if current picks are not part of the deal.
2023 I had so many big trade expectations when it came out all the UFA’s were unwilling to sign on July 1. Toffoli was shipped out (underwhelming at the time) and I thought we would see a big Lindholm or Hanifin deal but we got nothing. Super boring 1st round.
I can see Andersson moving soon but it might be after free agency opens.

I imagine Ras would have been traded already if he was willing to sign an extension with teams like Buffalo or Columbus. But his whole reason for moving on is to end up on a better team than the Flames, not an arguably worse team.

I would still try and hook them up with cap space. They want to re-sign Granlund and keep the Finnish gang intact.
Andersson (50%) and Pospisil for Robertson and Dumba.
That's 13.775m cap given to Calgary (2.275m + 7.75m + 3.75m) and only 3.275m to Dallas (2.275m + 1m).

Probably because they don't want to take any salary back, so they have room to make other signings instead.
That said, 50% retained Andersson would still be appealing I'd think.
Edit: Great minds FFF
