The days of prioritizing hulking neanderthals over high end skill are behind us. And we're better for it.

Likewise. I hated the Chris Chucko type picks. Low ceiling is useless with a high pick. I like the philosophy of going for it.

Conroy says he is hoping both are Cs. Wants Potter to play C the entire upcoming season.

Outperforming adult peers 3-5 older than him says more than his size IMO.

Yup, seems like teams can always go find a bottom six guy with size

True, but they already drafted Reachny who is undersized, Parekh, who is awesome, but is small. I love the skill of these players, but if this is the core it’s missing a key component.

Sorry gotta be real guys—I’m not loving the pick. I was hoping the Flames would take a bigger swing here. Sure, he’s one of the fastest skaters in the class, no doubt about it but I just don’t see the high-end skill others are raving about. I see him as a valuable 3rd line 40+ point penalty killer. The hands aren’t there. Feels like we drafted Trevor Moore, Paul Ranheim or Jason Blake…

Draft Pick
|
forum has been pretty bad about both picks
not sure if people are just trying to be funny or what
but if your being serious
how about saying what player (s) you were hoping they were going to pick
that was still there when they had the chance to pick.
i believe they probably did BPA and both listed as C ( maybe both shift to wing who knows at this point )
I am just happy they did not settle for simply size and safe bottom 6 ceiling guys.

They got Honzek and Klapka as a start and no centers. They weren’t in a spot to get size and skill and the swings are good.

Guys, this team is nowhere near championship. I get they're missing size and all, but there's always next years and the following years' picks. We're not just going with our own either. There will be high picks we get from the deals. This team is going for talent and speed and that's great to see. More elements will be brought in over time.

Potter sounds like a player who could reproduce that buzz in the crowd that Johnny created when he started up the ice with the puck.

Who’s the bigger swing that was left? Potter is the swing based on draft rankings.

Potter's 22 points rank 45rd all-time for U-18 players in the NCAA, 23rd all-time for goals by U-18 players (13, tied with Cammalleri), and 52nd all-time for PPG (0.63).

Small player but make no mistake, this is a big swing.
Most of the alternatives don't have "high end nhler" written in their profiles anywhere as a ceiling.
He's already punching well above his weight in a league full of physically mature players.
