This seemed destined for a long time. Many mocks had the Flames taking him.

And sand man is a flames fan first. He does a lot of work for the site. Calling him a DD is weak and doesn’t respect his efforts.
People are passionate about the flames. We want to win it all before we die. I’d prefer someone like Zonnon over cole but I really like our scouting department. I think cole could be a top six center one day. I’m hoping as much.

I am open minded about this pick. Yes, Reschny is under-sized for a center, and there are some huge centers in the west. Yes, he may end up being converted to the wing.
As a poster who has a preference for size, I have said this 1000x - give me a smaller guy with compete, than a big guy without it. It isn't just size that makes you hard to play against. Compete has a lot more to do with it. Size and compete? Sure, but you have to pick in the top 5 for that.
Flames just injected a talented player with extremely high compete and a high-level of talent. He is going to the NCAA to further develop. Whether he is a #1C, #2C, or a winger at the NHL level, there is a lot to like about him.
Give him a till the end of development camp, and I am sure that Oilers fandom stink will be solidly behind him too.

I always push for size, but I really like this pick- he'll play at 6'0"perhaps, and even if he doesn't- he's farmboy strong, built like a fire hydrant, and plays much bigger than his size. Looks a lot like Brayden Point at times.

While I don’t disagree with this statement, and I too prefer the rebuild approach… seems early to already be upset about this pick no? Probably the best center left, and perhaps BPA overall at 18.

I am extra pushy on this one because I wanted Reschny lol. It was just another post along the lines of the oh no he is an Oilers fan post. Sandman is great but no need to drag the no goods into this thread. We also disagree on big=good haha

Not sad. Not upset at the player we got in terms of talent. Was the best player available. Calgary desperately needs centres organizationally. They need to get them as soon as possible. Holding onto Andersson and what feels like the team trying to remain competitive instead of focusing on the future is tough.
The only way reschny sticks at center is if he becomes one of the elitest of elite players like Point, Pavelski or Crosby. It could happen but the odds are remote. I hope he becomes a top six forward and both he and Coronato solidify the lw position for the next decade.

I didn't say anything about him being an Oilers fan. And I like Reschny too.

That is just your confirmation bias showing. Andersson is good as gone and was never going to fetch a top ten pick

Sandman isn’t. He’s a size first evaluator for the flames; because he, like many here know, size plays in the pros. Look at all the picks so far how many are sub six foot?
I personally liked Pittsburghs draft. Horcoff and Zonnon are great picks to follow kindle.
I think they did well but I like Cole and feel he could be a top six center.
Look what Anaheim is doing , Utah, Chicago, Seattle. All using premium picks on size and skill down the middle.

The shortest guy in the finals was one of the most impactful.. Marchand.
Height helps, but it’s just one aspect that defines a player.

Yeah, if the players are about the same skill wise then take the big guy but size can’t be his main attribute. Teams all want Rantanen’s and Thompson’s but they are rare. The real big guys don’t turn out to be top six guys at a higher rate.
