I read the fine print on the system transfer and I'm glad I did that before starting the process. I want my Switch 1 to keep everything it has right but it says it'll wipe the whole system? Brutal.

Is the alternative to just download games on the Switch 2 from the eShop and use the cloud save download feature?

You do the virtual game cart transfer, which is also a pain

I tried this for a couple digital games and it seems fairly seamless. What's the issue with it?

Having to turn both machines on. I also had a few issues the first time I tried where it said it checked the game out, but then kept looping me back to syncing with the old switch. Happened 3 times before it worked.

Seems it should be something that could be handled offline, but I don't thin the Switch 1 can turn on remotely so they couldn't remove access. I think it's all a bit silly given the account system and it could be cloud managed.

I only had to have both Switch consoles on for the first time. After that the other game cards have transferred with the Switch 1 off.

Nintendo is banning Switch 2 consoles if you use a MIG card, which really can’t be used for piracy. So this is going to make the used market dangerous unless you can check if it’s banned.

Weird, I'll have to try another one then, both that I transferred made me turn on my old Switch.

If any Costco members are still looking for the Switch 2, they just re-stocked yesterday at the Heritage location and there was still a whole bunch yesterday early afternoon. I'm going there again later today and can confirm stock. Just wanted to let everyone know.

Edit: over 150 still in stock as of June 24 noon

So I started my Switch 2 setup process yesterday and trying to figure out how I want to do it based on the convo you and Mazrim are having. I also didn't want to wipe my old Switch, so I just downloaded a few virtual game carts to see how it goes. I didn't try doing any back and forth transfers, so I'll let you know if I experience any problems.

Before I go down this path too far though, if I decide to just do virtual game carts (and not transfer data from old Switch), then is it just the same process of transferring save game data between the 2? I don't have Switch Online. Does the "system transfer" move anything else other than profiles, games and save data?

It moves profiles, save data, screenshots and videos. It redownloads your games on the Switch 2 rather than transferring, then it wipes the Switch 1.

I have Switch Online so I've been grabbing the cloud saves of games from the online service whenever I install a game. I'm not sure what the process is for getting save data without Switch Online and without wiping the original console.

The Switch 2 screen has very slow response times.

What are the odds they still have some stock? I've tried calling and calling but no one is picking up the phone...
